I finally got a yellow light on new wheels for the Zhp. Please post up comments if you care.

I am going with a darker look, not murdered out. Smoke lights on Mystic with gunmetal wheels. These are my three options so far but I really like the 996 the best. I know it is not "bimmer" but please tell me if you think it is too "rice".

Tires will be 235/265 on all wheels and I think I want 19s. The 18s just seem to look a tad too small for the car but I would like to keep the tire sidewall of the 18 ;)

Love!!!!

LIKE but worry about a 35 rear offset on a 9.5". They are the 71s.

Like but not sure about the polished lip on my car. I had some other polished lip knock offs on an suv and the clear coat got ruined.

Let me know what you think.

Sorry, I could not find plain pics to insert.

Also the tires, I am going to try the Nitto Invo. I need something that can be used as a DD.

And I am running stock suspension and plan on rolling the rear.

I've always like the LM style but I also like the style of the VT996. I like the second one too but I prefer more of a dish.

jjcools

The 71s should have a nice concave to them which would also look nice.

Marcus, your LM vote is void. You have the real deal, cannot vote for your own wheels :)

My preference is with #2, followed by #3. I'm a sucker for BBS style wheels on the 3 series...Most BMW's. #2 is also a little more understated and stealth and would fit the car/color combo. I've seen the #2 with 19's with a lowered suspension and it was stunning! I can't remember the name of the wheels off hand. They were replicas, about $700 for the set. Not sure of the weight though.

The 35mm offset scares me on the 71s but they are good looking, that is why I thought maybe the eurospec would be a good choice. All the weights are about the same.

Dane, I like the 14s but their price keeps going up and I am kind if feeling the 19s now.

Moved on, and found them elsewhere for the same price but still the offset put me off so I am back to the Euro Spec ESR1. I think I am going to go with these unless for some reason the wife decides I can spend the $$ on forgestars by 2/28...D-day for the wheel purchase.

The Vt996s look great on our cars! Personally I wouldnt get em, but they still look very agressive!

Rough idea
http://www.vortextuning.com/forum/showcase/VT996_MB_E46_2.jpg

I would go with the 2nd ones myself, but I really want VMR V710s. How about TSW Nurgring? They would look incredible on your car!
http://www.tsw.com/img/nurburgring_gunmetal_pop_std.jpg

jjcools
02-14-2011, 09:41 AM
Those TSW look nice!!!! and I read they are light, similar process as the Forgestar wheels. I would look at the 18s I think for this wheel.

I checked it out though and their offsets are a bit funny. Rears are 40 and the fronts are 35 but only an 8" width. The rear would work if I ran 255s I think and rolled the fenders. Hmmmmmm. Now I like these a lot. Maybe I will put a call into modbargains and see what they say.

Can I run a 235 front and a 255 rear or will that make things crazy or make my fronts look too beefy.

mimalmo
02-14-2011, 09:58 AM
JJ, the VMR V710's that I had 235 fronts and 255 rears. Remember too that the OEM ZHP setup is 225 front and 255 rear.

gr330zhp

Bav Auto has pretty good pricing on those TSWs...

I wish they were available in regular silver rather than polished, I would have em

jjcools
02-15-2011, 03:27 PM
New theory...

What if I run 8.5 et35 square and 235/35 and 255/40 tires? Is that whack? FOr some reason this appeals to me as I could still get a tad wider rear but it would be pretty close to square. IDK WTD!!

I am not willing to go with the 9.5 rear cause I do not want the wheels to show up and them have a hella of a time getting them to fit without rubbing.

For some reason I am lusting after those Alufugen wheels and AA has them so I will not have to work with the flakey guy at Alufugen that did get back to me finally BTW.

mimalmo
02-15-2011, 03:39 PM
If you're doing a square setup (all wheels same size) you should do same size tires as well. That way you can rotate the wheels.

I wouldn't be scared of the 9.5" rears. Plenty of us have done it. What's the offset of the 9.5" rears?

jjcools
02-15-2011, 03:44 PM
That was the problem rear is a 35 still so it will need a lot of massaging to get them in there.

Will a 255/30 work front and rear? I ran the numbers on 1010 but in the end couldn't tell what was what cause I was comparing 3 or 4 tire sizes and got mixed up.

danewilson77
02-15-2011, 03:51 PM
JJ, the VMR V710's that I had 235 fronts and 255 rears. Remember too that the OEM ZHP setup is 225 front and 255 rear.

The style 135 is 18x8 front with ET47...and rear is 18x8.5 ET50.

If you go 18x8.5 square setup and stay around ET45...I think you will be ok.

I don't have 135's but I am assuming in the rear you guys have .5" of clearance in the rear? 10mm...ish?

Additionally....I have 18x8 all around with 225's up front and 245's in rear.....

jjcools
02-15-2011, 04:04 PM
Eli, what about running a 245/35 rear on a 9.5 and a 235/35 front on an 8.5? I think that would fit even on a et35 all around... The diameter is a tad higher than the 255/30 but it would be less square and more round!!!

Dang, I hate this. I guess I should just give up and get the et35/45 from Euro-Sport... I just hope their finish is better than the VMR which everyone I have seen has complained about chipping.

danewilson77
02-15-2011, 04:09 PM
Honestly....that tire fitment calculator is invaluable for stuff like this. Hook it up in tire fitment 101...stickied at the top.

Well....do you ever plan to lower your car?

jjcools
02-15-2011, 04:25 PM
I hope to run COs in the next year. That is why I am so worried about the fitment. I want to make it as aggressive as I can without rubbing issues, I am not worried about a light fender roll. I would not drop it but maybe adjust the CO to -1 or around there.

mimalmo
02-15-2011, 04:37 PM
If you're planning on getting the fenders rolled eventually, just get the wheels you want then. A 9.5" ET35 with a 255 tire will rub on a lowered car but nothing that can't be fixed with a simple fender rolling. You might even be able to get away with it on stock height with no fender roll.

The only time I got a chip on my VMR's was when I accidentally whacked it with a tire iron. The mark was small. All wheels get dings in them.

mimalmo
02-15-2011, 04:37 PM
I should add, the wheels I'm looking at are 9.5" ET35 too. :)

Rovert
02-21-2011, 02:25 AM
I ran on my stock M135 18x8.5's 265/35/18 on stock height with no rubbing issues. But the safe offset kept everything further in from the fender than an aftermarket offset. Here are what Falken FK452's looked like on these wheels:
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/391/falkenfk452overalldw9.jpg

I have ET45 on 19"x9.5 with a more rounded Toyo T1R tire. The tires are slightly tucked and i do get a tiny bit of rub if I have 3 or more in the car with me while taking a corner at hard lateral G's. The rub comes from the rear driver side and I think the tire is just hitting the upper fender well with the corner of the tire. ET35 is totally fine in the front at my height as I've never had an issue....I just hit the bump stop rolling over a massive speed bump a little to quickly which was probably not healthy for the upper strut tower.

Here are what a Toyo looks like with a 235/35/19 setup on an 8.5" which I believe can handle 245 or 255 no problem for next time but only with that tire sidewall shape:
http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/5027/img3118v.jpg

For just the wheel stance of an ET45 19x9.5 here is a reference...
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3599/3561469717_37fdbb27c1_z.jpg?zz=1
It's funny how my passenger side rear is a lower stance yet it never rubs. So I guess the wheel wells must be shaped different on the other side which has a higher stance but rubs on hard corners with weight in the backseat.

Here's a picture of the opposite side rear showing more tire definition so you can see the sidewall shape of a Toyo T1R is much more angled/rounded when using a 255/30 on that wheel. Side fender clearance is not a problem at all with the wheel at ET45, since I've rolled both sides moderately without flaring.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2442/3562280272_c448712031_z.jpg?zz=1

I have 10mm spacers for an ET35 rear to try out this season so I'll see how much rub I get with those on the driver's rear and how much I need to raise the back up to keep rub down. I really rather have 265's on the rear as I prefer a more squared off sidewall stance look but I know that with different models/brands of tires, sidewall shape will all be different so it's a fine line of what will rub and what won't.

So if you get more aggressive rear ET35's, I'd have to say you'll need to have a mild to moderate stretched look with a lowering job so the upper sidewall doesn't contact the inner upper fender liner. On standard suspension you'll probably be fine with just a fender roll which isn't a big job on a sedan. Coupes have a thick sealer gunk all inside the fender lip that needs to be cut out to roll/bend the fender up. Sedans have a very thin version of the sealer so the metal will bend up easy without removing the sealant. If you use rear ET45, you'll probably be able to afford a more squared sidewall which looks meatier especially if you lower a bit but don't tuck the tires as much as in my pictures as you risk some rub.

mimalmo

Trevor, do you still have your rear bumper clips in? I had to take mine out after a few good sized bumps made the tire make contact with them (same wheels as yours except tires were Dunlop SP Sport Maxx).

Rovert
02-21-2011, 10:18 AM
I must still have them. I have no idea what you're asking. LOL. Everything's been perfect and dandy here! Bumper hasn't shown any signs of wanting to fall off.

mimalmo
02-21-2011, 10:27 AM
No, the bumper doesn't fall off. There are some clips that go between the rear bumper and the rear fender. A lot of the guys that lower their cars and have decent width rear tires have to remove them. With the same setup as mine, I thought you may have run into a similar issue.

Also, I had to get my fenders rolled on day one when I got the VMR V710 setup due to rubbing.

Rovert
02-21-2011, 10:33 AM
I don't think I'm slammed enough to have that problem yet. I'll make sure to look into it when I try 10mm spacers in the rear. I want more flush stance just like the front ET35's. If I need to I'll roll the fenders more aggressively.

Thanks for the input. Very detailed. I am going to steer clear of the 35 et cause i want a meaty tire and am not a huge fan of stretch since it should be a performance car and all. I will most likely end up with either the VT996 or the ESR1s, both have 43-45 et. I hate making decisions like this.

If I had the money I would probably get the VT since I think they would look sweet on my car with a few more mods but I think it is going to remain pretty close to stock for awhile longer.
