Now, this was a very quick experiment, and still needs to be evaluated for longevity and effectiveness, but for now, after looks better than before ...

(it's hard to photograph black cube trim - so please note in the AFTER pics, the still white-ish areas are NORMAL and NOT remaining scratched areas - that's the way the light hits the trim and even the tiniest movement of the iphone makes them look like scratches - they're not.

You can clearly see 2 major damaged, wedding ring-induced spots now look 'gone' in the after pics...

Now everything looks pretty even and good - for now at least. I might try to put a sealant to prolong the finish.

I did with a black automotive touch up paint pen (not a bottle/brush but an actual pen where you can control the flow of paint) that we bought for our old black Hyundai Elantra, and it was perfect to use because this pen had almost dried out and near empty - so i could dab and brush with the tip of the pen like with a marker very often and get tiny amounts of paint on the damaged spots - with a new pen the results would be much messier - unless you left the pen uncapped for some time for the tip to dry out.

1 before and 2 after pics: ("AFTER 2" is probably most accurate)

Thanks guys - it's far from perfect but hides the imperfection well enough for now...

Look at my drivers side cube trim, it's bad! The previous owner destroyed it. Tried everything to hide it and nothing works.

Thanks Bill! I have a spare piece (in Pay it Forward thread) I could experiment on but it's flawless...

Update: Do Not Use the Aluminum Black! See Below...

My drivers side arm rest is scratched up pretty bad. I tried using this product I have for touching up nicks on my AR lowers. Beings it's made for made for aluminum I figured it would work. It actually worked really well, it took out 80% of the wear marks and scratches.

Gary, so you just use it as touch up paint? Any before/after? Any sanding needed?

Update: Do Not Use the Aluminum Black! See Below...

You clean the area with alcohol first. Then use a Q Tip to coat the scratches, let it sit a minute or two and wipe off. The Aluminum Black chemically blackens the aluminum. I was Suprise how well it worked. It's not perfect but it took out 80% of the scratch. I will try and get a good photo. Not bad considering my armrest is trashed!

I have the black cube and just tap on the scratches with a black Sharpie. It is really satisfying how well the scratches disappear.
Same idea as the black paint, but may be easier to control the placement and certainly easy to buy.

If you're referring to the black touch up paint I used, it IS a pen, not a bottle - has the same tip like a Sharpie. (I already had it as the pen came with my wife's old car so it was free actually)
Looks like this:

But I am getting curious about that Aluminum paint stuff that Gary posted - wonder if THAT comes in a pen form...
EDIT: Yep it does:

I might get some, as black sharpies can look more purple than black. Wash, do you have the part # or the official color black that is?

Washburn

John,
do you mean for the Hyundai black touch up pen that i used?
I can't find a part number but the official color was Ebony Black - color code was 'EB'.

Thanks for this tip. I like the fact that the Hyundai paint comes as a pen. I'm going to try it.

Update: Do Not Use the Aluminum Black!

I did the drivers side armrest and it turned out good. So I did the passengers side about 2 weeks ago. I washed the car today and wiped off the armrests. The passengers side is messed up bad. It ate the clear coat off! Here is the weird part the drivers side looks fine. I used some Armor All on it and it looks fine now. Made my day...
