Hey I just joined the mafia about 30 minutes ago, and only had my ride for under a year. But I want to come to the reunion! I only live in Va Beach too so no problem for me to do the airport convoy. I have not done much to my ride ('01 330ci vert auto) but hopefully by June I will not look too shabby next to everybody's awesome mods.

Should be a quick drive for you...

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! 757 Mafia. Is there a lot of people from the area on here? That is so awesome. I tell you, I have never bought a car that I loved, always a "good deal" car, and my 330 has been trouble with a capital T (used @ 60k) but the more that breaks, the more I learn and enjoy. The online scene for this car is amazing. I have gone almost a year w/o having to post a question (and still going). My only regret is it is an auto (my first), I do use it for daily driving and I drive a lot during the day with Hampton Roads traffic but... I still regret. Guess I will get manual 2011 3 series... in 2021. haha.

What can I do to contribute to the Friday evening festivities? If you would like me to bring some food, I think flounder is in season around then. I'll bring about 20lbs of fresh NC flounder.

I have cooked it before, but I can make sure i know some good tricks before I get there if that is what we have. Some good Down East (well, up east) NC flounder from Coralla/Duck would not be bad.

We should do a low country boil, and have flounder too. Maybe static could bring some good NC shrimp too (we would help with that cost, static) That would be a great meal, cheap, and easy to make. Also would keep us out of Mrs wilson's kitchen...which im sure would not be a bad thing.

I came in a little late on this discussion... Is there going to be room to crash for the night, or should i plan on getting a hotel somewhere...

I am not opposed to sleeping outside either...

either way is fine by me, just trying to get my ducks in a row.....

Also, I can bring 4 jack stands with me if there is a need, just let me know.

Something tells me this is going to be a GREAT weekend!

danewilson77
03-04-2011, 10:24 AM
Thanks for the offer on the jackstands. Will advise when the maintenance requests have been finalized.

For your own benefit...I think getting a hotel for the night might be best bet.

I will come out with details soon, recommending places to stay...cheap.....and not so cheap.

I don't think I passed along my family's "plans"....I'm planning on taking off that Friday and driving down from PA mid-morning (around 11am). The little one won't be able to be in the car seat for four hours... so we'll probably stop around Quantico or Fredericksburg and have some lunch, do some site seeing, and get her ready for another nap.

I hope we can leave early enough to miss the DC traffic and be able to make it down there Friday night. We won't be able to stay too late Friday - have to get the family over to VA beach. Then I'll come back over (HRBT) Saturday morning for cars and coffee/lunch. I may or may not stay for the drive since I'll have a little one having a blast at the beach without me.

I won't be able to stay for the clinic Sunday - we'll be driving back from the beach after everyone wakes up.

I was thinking of the meet kinda like one of my family's barbeques - if anyone wants to bring something - they can. As long as you can provide the fire and a place for the cars... it'll be all good and we should be okay. I was planning on swinging by the grocery store on the way to your house...

Having spent the weekend at DW's house, I have some insight to share.

It was an absolute pleasure to have suffered through 7 hours there and 11 hours back in the car to have spent the weekend at Dane's house. He is incredibly hospitable, and his family is a joy to be around. Everyone seemed to have just "flowed" well together (I'm sure they were on their best behaviour lol). I typically get annoyed by kids but his children are by far one of the most entertaining kids I've been around! I want to thank Dane for the amazing willingness to help and fantastic hosting for an awesome weekend.

I especially want to thank Justin for all the work he did. Despite my intentions to actually help work on the car, being so fatigued that proved to be very difficult having been up a total of 27 hours throughout Friday night and all of Saturday, so poor Justin was left to do most of the work (99%) himself, with occasional "guidance" *ahem*instigating*cough* from DW. I am truly honored to have met such good people.

I absolutely cannot wait to see you guys in person again, and am seriously considering driving down again for that play we helped paint for on Saturday night...

I know one thing for sure. This Family reunion is going to be EPIC.

OK, so the wife is up for the drive from Houston, as long as we keep going to DC after the meet to celebrate her b-day on the 16th.. It is a LONG drive(not as long as WA..) but we made a 24hr+ straight drive before...

We are 80% on the "yes, let's do it" side, just have to RTO at work and check for family arriving from Brazil or Africa around that time.

Since I am a "gaucho", often at big events I cook a south american/brazilian bbq, normally for 50-1000 people, so if we can get a grill big enough(charcoal/wood, NO GAS), I'll trade my cooking skills for some help on a Vanos rebuild :D I already got a few trophies for my brazilian beef(you dirty minded people...:eyetwitch ) and I can promise you never had better meat before...

I'll put the RTO and family calls and should have an OK soon, this is very exciting!!! :rockon

Quote from one of the blogs:

"From the nation that is one of the world's centers of Free/Libre Open Source Software and the Free Culture movement, comes a traditional folk recipe worthy of the second-largest beef producer in the world. The beef is specially cut into chunks, and grilled on skewers surrounded by rocks of pure rock salt. The salt melts as a coating on the meat and seals in the flavor, but it does not overly salt the food.

Here's the story of how this came to be at Penguicon. Eduardo Cesconetto is from Brazil, and grills beef in the Brazilian style for the annual meeting of the Greater Lansing Linux User Group. It's so much better than any beef they ever tasted, it's difficult for the GLLUG guys to eat meat in any other form ever again."

Now, I lost 30 pounds since then, but you can still see why I am a stifler for removing weight from my car.. lol

Dotpage- You could check out the Greatwolf Lodge. It is not a spa so much as a hotel/big indoor water park. The kids would love it. I had a friend that was working there, I will see if there is any sort of deal I can get you... though June is the busy season. link: http://www.greatwolf.com/williamsburg/waterpark edit: just read they do have a spa.

lol... isn't that the truth, like going to CW... I have a friend too that works for one of those Williamsburg timeshare/resorts. She is in sales, so I could ask if there is any deals on a spot. Maybe a multi-room town home or something people could split. I will call today on my lunch break.

Wow you live up there by York River State Park. I grew up in New Kent right near the West Point Road (rt33) and New Kent Highway (rt249). Your probably 10 mins from my moms house. If she is still in Florida come June I could maybe have some people stay there either camping of crashing out on couches.

I'm working with a connection I have with HGI to get a reservation. Their location in Williamsburg is right near all of that. If everything works out, I'll have a twin room with an open bed. I'll confirm this when I hear back from my guy but, someone is more than welcome to stay if it happens.

This place..imho..is in the perfect location to my house and the meet. It is probably pretty nice.....but not luxurious by any means. Looks like it may run around $100.00/night. Kind of hard to tell, unless you book in advance...

I drive past this place daily. Seems like it gets quite a bit of action.

Also...everyone coming needs to understand that Williamsburg is a tourist town with the outlets, Busch Gardens, Water Country, and all of the historical places.

I'm still not sure if I will be able to swing it Boss. It depends on work. I already had a trip planned to the Carolinas in April and I don't know if I can take off again in June. Plus my daughter turns 8 on the 8th of June and so that weekend may end up being hers.

danewilson77

No one is taking cooking over from anyone else gosh darnit! Lol....hey....I haven't even thought that far out yet. I know everyone wants to pitch in....and I really appreciate it. Its going to make things a bit easier on me.

I will have a small barbecue, a bonfire, and a full kktchen. I would like to keep the main meal (the bulk) something simple....like some good burgers and dogs with all the fixings...including my wifes homemade Hatch NM green chili. I would also like, maybe, for those that love to show off their cooking skills, to do somethiing just to give everyone a taste of what they like to do. You know...kind of an appetizer before the meal. My daughter is handling desert.....and we will not be thirsty....

I don't want cleanup to be huge. I just want to eat, drink, and chill with my bro's.

I need to figure out music. If anyone has an idea there that would be sweet. I may have a dart board setup out back....just so...as men...we can throw sharp objects and see them stick.

Pass any ideas to me. I am sure it will be a pretty late night...and I am all for that. We will need to be over at Bellisimos between 1030 and 1100 for for park, lunch, group photo, then we'll hit the road to go on the drive that John Madd arranges for us. I would like the drive to be published to the family no later than 10 May...to give all adequate time to study every curve in the road.

After that....I'm all for dinner, somewhere nice....but I am also open to suggestions.

Just my thoughts.....and for those of you bringing family with you...do not feel obligated to any particular event. I do have an expectation that all will be present for the group photo though....

There will be enough conversations going on that i want to listen to or participate in, ill be a happy camper either way. Ah I do mean the 10th but i could very well be there 9 since I have family in VA and I tend to be there quite a lot. I plan to be there in around 1730 so people see me roll in :D, jk but ya ill try to be in as early as possible but knowing traffic it can be bad around certain times. I'll make sure to plan to leave early so I be there on time and if I'm early ill just cruise around and enjoy the scenery.

Just got a confirmation on my hotel room. I'll be staying at the Hampton Inn on Capitol Drive in Williamsburg. Its a two bed room. As of now, Daddyoh has first dibs but if he can't make it, all I ask is that you cover half the expense. I'll only be staying Friday night and checking out on Saturday.

Looks like on paper I have 20 spots.......I have 4 cars.....and Marcus isn't bringing his....so....with 13 signups (forgot 13. was blank...lol) and my rides.....that = 17....and we should be good. I have a backup plan for 20+ should we get there.....

-Light blue = open parking = for people not camping...and not showing up early...

-Red dots in garage = My car

-Red dots in driveway = BP = Showing up early to help and is camping.

-Black dots in driveway = Johnmadd = Showing up early/drinking/passing out.

-Gray dots in driveway = Mtnman = Camping with son.

-Gray dots on rocks = Keith = Right hand man.

-Black dots on rock = JW77's C230.

-Light silver and dark blue are place holders for wifes ML350 and dughters VW bug. I have no idea where they will be friday.

My son will coordinate parking and will meet people as they show up. I will be getting the Boss.

Phil,
M52TUB2X VANOS units are notorious for cold weather issues, but the rattle kit won't be necessary.

All,
I can swing some VANOS assistance if need be.
Still waiting to hear back from my internship :(

I'll have to schedule some time at the Dane Wilson Garage in the fall to do my VANOS. I'll have to bail on Saturday night due to work on Sunday.

Should we do yours Saturday night? I wonder if we would have time?

That may put a damper on the festivities. It's all good. We can get to it later. It's just a little noisy but seems to be working ok.

Yep, I guess so. Thanks. I'll order a replacement part. There's a fun article in last month's Roundel on removing it, and I see the article every morning, hahaha. Jus sayin........:innocent

I've been told that you don't have to replace it, just remove it and the two ends just screw together.

Correct. Only reason I'm aware of to replace it with a hollowed-out cdv body is if you have warranty or CPO concerns.

If i do vanos sunday, I will want to do anti rattle as well. Also turns out that my son's birthday party may be that sunday afternoon sometime. That would mean an early AM departure for me and no vanos :crying. I am working on some way around this scenario.....I will keep you posted.

Updated parking plan.

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/nicee46/Home%20stuff/Myhome2-1-1.jpg

****I am planning for 30+ people depending on who everyone brings....so far.

I would be more happy with 30 signups!!!! Keep em coming people!!!!!

BUMP!
