I have not read this entire thread, so I'm not sure if this has been covered yet, but one of the very best things that people in the MINI community do for events like this is have small stickers made for participants. It could be as simple as the text in Dane's sig right up there. If I come down, I'd be happy to pay whatever that sticker might cost. I'm not a sticker guy, but if it's discreet enough, I'd put it on.

I need to add me to the Vanos list :( damnit. I really didn't want to do this in your driveway Dane, but I have no time between then and now to do this. It would be nice to have someone there who has been inside a BMW engine before. I can do Honda's with my eyeballs closed, this car worries me for some reason.

Most important thing is making sure you have all of the parts you need.

I printed it...but the printer didn't start up so I hit print again. Waited 2 minutes, NOTHING. I checked...the printer has paper, so I hit print a 3rd time. Waited on 3 customers, and then checked the printer to find 150 pages of vanos write-ups FAIL!

Talked to Rick at autozone and he said that the markup is too small to give me a discount. He said it is only pennies, just like gas, good to get people in the door but not a big profit maker. I will try the independent AMS oil sales people if you guys like amsoil. They were the first to make a fully synthetic oil, and they started with jet engines.

I live in CT, so with the exception of Cameron, I'll be leaving the earliest. :(
My best suggestion is for all of us to do what Marc suggested; meet up at a rest stop in NJ and get gas there. Gas is DIRT CHEAP in NJ!
I just wish they didn't have the ridiculous law of no Self Serve...

BP is on the money. NJ is a full-service State.

No self-service is permitted.

It was supposedly done to preserve jobs.

It isn't a criminal statute, however, so my understanding is that you can't get in trouble for pumping, but the service station can be fined if you are observed pumping- so they don't take kindly to it.

It's kind of funny if you grew up here. First time I had to gas up in Pennsylvania when I was 17 and by myself I had no frieken clue how to pump my own gas.

Must have been funny to watch me trying to figure it all out.

Just tonight when my car was all full, the fellow looked at me first before coming over. I nodded in approval because he doesn't dribble gas on the car. There's a fine line between stepping on their toes and actually helping out.

In new gas stations, I get out to watch then pounce if they're busy.

Dane we want to make sure everyone that's doing a VANOS has a valve cover gasket kit, Yes? I'm sure you probably covered that but just want to make sure no one is stuck there.

I figure if you don't have air we can always use cordless drills with a 3/8 socket adapter to speed up disassmbly.....

I am an auto, and am bringing my fan wrench. the issues with the fan are blown way out of propotion. I can take fan off in 5 mins, and put back on in 10. No sweat.

Sure am glad that I got my ticket when I did. My same flight has gone from $498 (total) to $1,073 now.

Also, Dane, note the return home time change. My flight doesn't leave until 6:15 pm on Sunday, which means I will be there for much of Sunday's festivities.

Air is Def cool... we'll need to save as much time as possible. I can bring an air wratchet but we'll need to split off multiple air lines.

I mentioned earlier that, for the VANOS, we could use cordless drills with 3/8 socket adapter. I've done this before and it works pretty well... a little tough in tight areas but for removing cabin air filter assy, valve covers, etc it willl work great. Can't really use air for reassembly anyway because most of the torque values are around 6 ft. lbs. My Bosch has a brake and a torque clutch on it... makes it great for this kind of thing.

What do you guys think?

Well, Mine's a Chineese POS from Pepboys but it works pretty good. Got for $50 and figured if it didn't work I'd toss it in the trash..... that was 8 yrs agp

So one day I come home from work, and I get outta the car...and I hear some rustling in the leaves...down in tha coulie....and I see this fox running right at me. I used to feel like that also, then this little kitten started to live in my e30 that was on jackstands forever and has become a part of the family now. You can train them to obey rules but can't teach them tricks, although my cat responds to "hey" with a "hey" sound. Oh, and the keep the squirrel, rodent, moles, and other unwanted animals away frm your yard and house.

You give them your credit card information when you reserve. When you check in, they ask you if you'd like to keep that card on file for incidentals and the final bill. When you check out, the hotel bills your card for the full amount.
