More fun in these parts on my ZHP. This is the third time I've pulled the cylinder head off. The first being from a shady mechanic doing a terrible head job which resulted in bearing damage. I did a full rebuild on the engine 16,000 miles later the head gasket is seeping into cyl 3. Off for the third and LAST time.

The problem ended up being that the Erling headgasket failed. You can see in the photos posted below. I KNEW I should've used a Cometic gasket with the ARP head studs, but decided an Erling OE gasket would be fine with the extra clamping force of the ARP head studs. On the bright side, the engine drove great for 16,000 miles. It's amazing how smoothly a rebuilt motor will run. It's extremely quiet!

It's going back together with a Cometic .30 headgasket, headers, and POSSIBLY custom cams.

Pulled the head Saturday... It took about 1 1/2 hours. Taking the stock manifolds off with head studs SUCKS. I'm glad I'll be going cat-less this time. I'm also having my starter rebuilt at a local starter/alternator place. They did an excellent job on my alternator. It looked brand new when they were done.

Currently waiting on parts......

Sorry to hear about the extra werk, but it gets easier after you've done it a few times, eh?

I thought the OEM supplier for head gaskets was Victor Reinz?

It's cake after the first time. I still hate removing the manfiold bolts. That took the longest.

Love those ARP studs.
They're excellent!

Perhaps. I stayed away from the VR head-gaskets after seeing lots of people were having issues with them. Everything else on my car is VR.

I love the headstuds. I loved them on my old turbo civic and they make it so much easier to guide the head on. Funny cause I used a cometic headgasket on the old honda too..

You've got to love an aluminum block. Never has over-heated...

Seriously, I already have stupid amount of money in this car and now I have to buy a time-sert kit. 11089
