I have an opportunity to pick up a set of style 5's for a steal as well as tires but have been interested in the VMR's since I first saw them. I'm curious what you all think. I will have to get one or the other cannot afford to get both. The 5's are currently white at the moment.

Here is a pic with the 5's on my car and a pic of the VMR's.

This.
Only the older cars look good with that style of wheel IMO (Style 5's).
VMR all day long.

My vote, the VMRs. I've been eyeing the 710's, BMP designs has a very good price on them right now.

VMR. The 5s are nice but they look dated to me. Great lip on those though.

Styke 5's look so good......bring in that old school vibe that is classic on any bmw

Something about the look of VMR rims on e46 that "Just looks so right!!!!!"

VMR gets my vote

Alright looking like the majority is in favor of vmr. I'm going to debate on it but if anyone may be interested in the 5's let me know I'll hook you up with him.

Style 5s... although there ain't a dang thing wrong with the VMRs.

How much for the style 5s, if you don't mind me asking?

if it is only a choice between the two, I say VMR.

I've got 710's, and as mush as I love the looks and general high quality, they are a bit soft. At least when running a 19" with shorter profile tire. The roads are so-so here and in 2 years, two rims have gone out of round from unavoidable potholes. Might be more doable in 18". The 19" fill in the wheel wells so well though.

If you are on the VMR train, maybe consdier the VMR v810?

I vote style 5... but if you decide not to get them let Jordan know (Johal E32), he wants a set for his touring!

I love the curved spokes of the 710's which you don't get with the csl's. Wanted something just a little different. The vb3's look good but I've been in love with the 710's as soon as I saw them!

I kinda like these, but I totally understand if it's not your thing, most people don't like them: http://www.velocitymotoring.com/wheels_v721.html

Style 71, or if you can fit it, style 95, as well. I like both, but again, personal taste. I always encourage people to mod their how car how they want! It keeps things interesting.

I'd go with the 710's. I had them on my previous zhp and I want to get another set for my new one :thumbup

Those do look good thanks I'll look into them!

Appreciate the pics! I will more than likely go with hypersilver or gunmetal with mine. I just love how those wheels look in lighter colors.

No problem. I'm leaning towards the gunmetal 710's for my AW sedan.

BTW, I was running a staggered 19 set.

Nice that will look sweet!
Let me know If you find a good deal on some. I'll prob just go with the 18's the way the roads are around here I'd be afraid to go any bigger.

Of those 2 wheels, VMR for sure. I've never understood the love affair w/ style 5's, though I know many like them.

With that said, VMR's are really heavy wheels. If you're gonna pick up something new, why not a lighter wheel?

So which way are you leaning now? BTW, when you're ready, I'll move this to the wheel section.

I think I'm still leaning toward the V710 style wheels. Going to check out these other wheel manufactures and see how they are rated.
I will create a separate thread in the FS section once I can find out what the guy wants for the style 5 wheels along with pics as soon as he sends them to me.

Thank you all for your help!

If Avant Garde is an option for you, I would advise you to look into them instead....for a long time, I considered VMR's VB3s as well as a few other ones (all by VMR). I even went to eas in Anaheim and their next-door neighbor VMR to check it out.

In the end, I went with ModBargains' Avant Gardes since they were the 999th people to tell me that AG's are low-pressure cast versus VMR's gravity-cast. The difference being low-pressure cast is supposedly stronger and even our factory wheels are all low-pressure cast at the very least.

Either way, both companies make identical styles and there have been stories both good and bad so in the end, it's up to you!

Nice pick up!

So is the low pressure cast supposed to prevent more bubble forming or anomalies in the wheel than just a gravity-cast?

From the few threads I've read, it's just that low pressure cast makes the wheels more durable and less prone to becoming cracked or dented.
There was a certain hierarchy, with forged at the near-top of the list.
Again though, this is just what "they say." Among other things, unless you track the car or drive around crappy streets, most people don't really put that much consideration into it if it's the next tier up or down.
