has anyone used these or tried something like these?

Maybe you can explain the resistor hookup. Also....did it give you BOW?

I needed resistors because if you just change the bulbs, they give an error bulb-out warning on the dash and they flash rapidly. The resistor install is easy. You can pick up the resistor kit from khoalty or you can get the taps at your local hardware store.

I had to peel back the protective shielding on the turn signal wire and tap the + wire to one side of the resistor and the ground to the other side.

....did it give you BOW?

BOW...?

BOW = Bulb Out Warning....lol

lol wow duh. Before, yes there were BOW's. With resistors installed, no

Yes...he said you need to install resistors.

:facepalm I wish I had thought about this before placing my order. Anyone have a DIY solution instead of me having to buy a resistor through Khoa...? I would like to give him the business but shipping charges to the east coast would be more than the part itself.

He said you could source the stuff at radio shack. Go to Khoa's site. I think it may even say what you need.

I would just get them from khoa. Free shipping...win.

Not expensive at all.
And for the LED license plate, I would just get the WeissLicht LED License plate Housings from JLevi (http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/3-Series-E46-%281999-2006%29-Lighting/c399_33_35/p5923/WeissLicht-Xenon-White-Error-Free-LED-License-Plate-Housing/product_info.html)

You mean the license plate lights? I have LED's in there and no bulb out warning so either mine have built in resistors or the plate lights aren't monitored for bulb outages.

Yes the license plate light. My guess was that it isn't monitored for bulb outages but I haven't tested it out.

Resistors are really easy to install. Just wire them up parallel to the 2 wires and you're set.

this is all good info. i saw the stuff on Khoalty and it looks all good but if one was to do this, it is strongly advised to get the resistor kit as well?

My car came with LEDs over the plate and they worked without resisters or a BOW. I removed them and went back to stock though, cause I didn't like the look.

You can throw LEDs on the rear, you just gotta look at the pin-out configuration and tap appropriately.

the reason for needing the resistors (in case anyone isn't electricity inclined like me until someone taught me) is because the LED takes less draw then a halogen bulb, so the car sees 50% power going to that spot instead of 100% power, basically the resistor takes that 50% and takes it for the car

it's basically like hooking up a halogen bulb before the led bulb, but without the light, that's how i see it in my head at least :)

the LED bulbs for license plates use to cause errors but now pretty much everyone stocks error free ones, some vendors sell the entire assmebly which has a panel of smaller leds, we sell the led bulbs for license plates that dont cause an error but are fewer, larger leds, to me the output is bright enough with what we have and it's pretty cost effective

back to the resistor thing, that's why some cars need them for interior led, basically the entire interior light bulbs go off of one module in the computer, replacing /all/ your interior lights with led sets the draw just low enough that the computer doesnt like it, so one resistor in the foot well or one halogen bulb in there brings the draw back good enough that the car is happy :)

Alright guys, I'm in need of some guidance here big time. Today I received a COMPLETE set of clear lighting from Umnitza; LED side markers, LED corners, complete fog assembly with Xenon bulbs & clear tails...which is awesome!

My question is how/where do I install the ballasts that came with each? See pics attached. The large ballasts go with the fogs, that's easy, but where should I mount those freakin things?? No hardware was included and there is only one small eyehole at the top of the ballast for mounting.

Secondly, the other pic is the two gold/orange "ballasts" (and LED bulb sets) I received, so are these ballasts for the corners or the sides...or both? Shouldn't I have one ballast per fixture? And again, where should I mount them? I'm usually very mechanical, but electrical stuff is not my bag... Thanks in advance!

This guy just mounted his inside the brake ducts but this is on an M3 and I'm not sure if there is any difference between those and our MTechII. His pics aren't the best though as far as exactly where he put the right one....but then again I haven't gotten down and looked to see what ours look like there. I have a set of the 9006 HID lights that I am going to convert my fogs with one of these days.

Can't help you on the question about the gold resistors. I've never used any before.

Give me to the end of the day to take picture of my resistors. All you need to do is wire them up parallel (aka from your ground to the red wire). Really easy, but I'll take pics

Cool thanks for the pics, I spoke with Umnitza's tech guy and he said to just mount them behind the fog as well, using double sided adhesive. Now I just need to find some double sided adhesive, and some 3M clear film to put over the fogs.

Anyways, the resistors aren't directional, so it doesn't matter how you wire them up. Just tap one wire to brown, and one the the blue with brown strip. Both of those then will go to the resistor

Can anyone tell me what size LED to order for my turn signals? 1156 or 7507? Also, does the BOW only show up if I check control? Or does will it show up all the time..

Yep you were correct. And yes, without resistors your bulb will blink fast and show a bulb out warning. Resistors are a must!
