After owning 3 ZHPs, I decided to switch it up and try something new. I found a 2006 E90 330i for sale in Atlanta by owner and immediately drove south to purchase! I was expecting the car to be nice, but was blown away by the condition and care the owner had put into the car. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the purchase.

The E90 is a nice upgrade from the ZHP in terms of comfort features, daily drivability, etc. They both have their plus and minuses, but the E90 is a nice fit for me.

Details: It's a 2006 330i ZSP 6MT with every option except NAV. The sport seats are my favorite part of the car thus far! It currently has 126k miles.

Which wheels do you all think I should run? I have a set of mint M-Tech wheels that I am considering putting on, but I do like my OEM wheels.

Here is a pre LCI E90 with the M-Tech wheels.

I'm not a fan of those wheels. The one spike - two spike - one spike - two spike thing bugs me. No consistency!

I like the OEM sedan sport wheels you have on now. In fact, I'm even considering getting a set of those for my coupe.

Fair point. My brother has them on his 2010 M-Sport 335 w/ 10mm spacers and they do look better with spacers.

What do you mean by no consistency? Is that not what a pattern is? Five 'AB's are just as much a pattern as ten 'A's.

They don't have the same finish that the ZHP or E9x M-Tech wheels have. That's my biggest complaint. When clean, the ZHP/E9X M-Tech wheels have that nice finish that really shines. Can't say the same for these wheels. They are very bland even after hitting them with Sonax and a degreaser.

Are they damaged in any way? If they are in mint condition, sell them, but if not, a refinish might be a great idea.

I had a new E90 ZSP when they first came out. Factory-ordered it exactly as I wanted - 6MT, no nav/iDrive, aluminum trim, ZSP, premium, comfort access, Logic7 sound. I too love the stock style 162 wheels. Sadly, I left the runflats on it for 11k miles before seeing the light and dumping them for PS2's. COMPLETELY transformed the car and improved everything about it. I kept it for less than 2 years, putting a fair amount of miles on it, then traded it in on my Z4MC. Too bad you can't drop yours into a wayback machine and have it come out like this, in early 2006 form...

That's gorgeous, Kevin. Your car was spec'd identical to mine. As far as tires, the car came with Potenzas. After having Pilot Sport AS3s on my ZHP, the Bridgestones are a major let down. I hope to grab some PS3s as soon as I can.

I do have a set of 18" VMR CSLs in hyperblack, but if I'm going to run 18s, I'm going to run the M-Techs. 18" CSLs on E90s don't work well, imo.

The OE runflat Potenzas were PURE crap! They offered the same tire as runflat and as "normal" tire. I checked the Tire Rack rankings at the time - out of something like 24 tires in the same class (ultra high performance or however they had them categorized), the non-runflat version ranked second in the entire group.. and the runflat ranked DEAD LAST, with horrible scores in all areas, and lots of owner complaints, and the worst "would you buy again?" rating of the entire group. Incredible. I was livid that BMW force-fed us these then, and not much happier about it now, but then again, I'm not in the market for a new BMW/Mini, so screw 'em. Runflats have come a long ways allegedly and are supposedly much improved nowadays, but in 2006, they were like the stone Fred Flintstone "wheels" on his chariot. A travesty that BMW jumped on them so early, and without giving the buyer an option for a set of "real" tires and a spare.

They look fantastic. He got them for a STEAL.

Coming out of HS, we both had two of the sickest Cosmos Black E36 M3s in the South and sold them at the peak of the E36 market about 2 years ago.

After we sold our cars around the same time, he picked up this E46 M3 and I picked up an Individual E36 M3 following a short stint with my first ZHP.

Needless to say, we both made terrible decisions. I spent far too much money on the Indiv. M3 and he's got crazy money into his E46 M3. Despite the adventure he's had with the E46 M3, he's finally got it dialed in.

His build thread can be seen here (http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=448827).

I liked it a lot. It's beefy and got a good feel like the ZHP knob (though different). That stock E90 knob is light as a feather, and mostly (if not completely) plastic, despite its metallic appearance. I remember taking my car in for service after I put the perf leather knob on, and when the SA brought the car around for me, he commented on how he liked it and wanted to know where I got it (duh!). I'm confident you'll like the upgrade.

I installed my style 193 wheels today. What do you all think?

They need new tires. The ones currently on them are terrrrrible. They are also begging for spacers. I attached a photo of my brother's 335 which has the style 193s and 10mm H&R spacers. I'm trying to lure him into giving me them since he's selling his car but I haven't had luck thus far. I'm not sure if I even want to deal with spacers.

Right now, I have two options : Style 193s + new tires (Michelen Pilot Sports) or buy my friend's 19" VMR CSLs w/ Conti DWs (not a DW fan).

I am keeping the 193s. I am on the hunt for spacers....that will be my next addition.

What size spacer(s) would you recommend? I'm probably going to buy spacers from Burger Tuning...I had their spacers on my E36 M3 and I loved the quality!

I need to get the matching e-brake handle. It's not very expensive!

Looks great, buddy! The tires definitely do make a difference on the 193's, and they'll look perfect with spacers.

Bought a BMW Performance SSK and 10mm spacers for the rear. :)

Update: I installed ECS 10MM spacers on the rear tonight. If I like the ride and quality, I might move the 10MMs to the front and throw a pair of 12MMs on the rear.

Just curious what should/can spacers do to the ride quality?

I had 10MM BMS spacers on my M3 and there were vibration issues.

If the improper sized spacers are installed and there is no hub lip for the wheels to rest/center on, then you put all of the stress/weight loading on the wheel bolts/studs. That could lead to vibration and also a failure of the bolts, leading to obvious issues.

If they're installed correctly, no problem. Of course, this is all assuming there's no rubbing. :thumbsup

Shoutout to Ruth's Chris valet for hitting the bottom of my bumper on a curb last night.

Not a good picture, but the bottom of the driver side front bumper has a fairly nice, deep rash on it.

You going to pay for it? :)

I am *very* tempted to order an E9x M3 rep bumper from Khoalty.

Ugh. I HATE letting valet parking take my car. Lost a fog light trim piece and pulled the bumper off the mounts on one side last year when they apparently ran mine up on a curb. :/

Finished up my summer classes today so it's officially car time for the rest of the summer. I haven't updated my thread in months, but I've made a few small changes.

I bought an Injen intake off E90post. I thought that I was buying a used intake...but was quite happy to open up a brand new intake when it arrived at my house. I never considered Injen to be a company that produced nice parts but man was I wrong. The quality is top notch. The sound is intoxicating too.

Today, I ordered 2 265/30/19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports to accompany the 245/35/19 Super Sports I had in the garage. They will be mounted on my gunmetal VMR V710s. I'll admit, I'm a bit hesitant to remove my Style 193s, but I'm excited to run the Super Sport tires.

I still need to install my BMW Performance SSK. I also realized that my car has upgraded 'white' AE bulbs.

Current modification list:
OEM BMW Black Line Tails
OEM E9x ///M-Tech Shift Knob
ECS Tuning 10/12.5MM Spacers
BMW Performance Alcantara Shift Boot
BMW Performance SSK (Need to install!)
Injen Intake w/ heat shield
White AE bulbs
Black Grills
Cyba Intake Scoops
M-Tech Trunk Lip

..and as I'm sure some of have noticed, I have ZHP #4 in the garage. I will be getting it ready to be put on the market.

Cool small additions in the mail from getbmwparts.com..

OEM E90 LCI cupholder covers:

And..

OEM E90 LCI radio knobs.

This is next on the list. I'm going to install an OEM X1 steering wheel trim. Fits the ZSP wheel perfectly. Should match nicely with my aluminum trim.
