Picked this up cheap the other day. Running and driving, cold A/C, and everything there.

The car has been painted at some point in it's life and the clear was heavily oxidized.

I spent the following day attempting to bring the paint back to life.

Started with some off the shelf tutti wax polishing compound and a cheap wool pad, then moved to an uber medium cut pad with Meguiars 105 compound, then an über fine cut pad with Meguiars 205 compound.

Cylinder six decided it didn't want to have compression anymore. Reason: unknown. Leak down test indicates exhaust valves. Replaced cyl 6 lifters as they were solid as a rock and it fired on all 6 cylinders for about 10 seconds. Oh well, farewell M50!

Very cool - always a fan of saving some of the older Bimmers. Your work on the heavily oxidized paint is incredible! I never would've believed that the finish would've come back like it did! Keep up the good work.

Wow. Better following than I thought for an old E36! The paint is much better than when I first purchased it, but it isn't perfect. Nonetheless, it's a huge improvement and was fun to tackle.

I don't think I'll be putting another BMW motor in it, only if a good deal comes up. I'm thinking a fourth gen GM motor. If a sweet deal on a LSX and T56 comes up, I'll swing it. If not, a 5.3 truck motor with bolt ons will still be plenty.

The interior isn't bad. It needs door cards, drivers seat, and a steering wheel. I'm thinking an aftermarket OMP wheel, corbeaus, and homemade door cards. All in the future of course. The first step is to strip and sell off what I don't intend on keeping. I'd like keep this a super budgeted build!

Okay, heard a pretty sweet sounding 540 E39. Exploring the M6X route...

So just a quick update, I sold the car. I want to build an E46 instead. I'm partial to the E46 chassis (duh), and I went ahead and lined some things up.

I wish I could've kept the E36, but only one toy at a time (really 2). Sold the E36 to find an upcoming E46 build.

Sorry guys! I really wanted to build this car too.
