View Full Version : A couple Wheel questions for the veteran zhpers

It's time for me to get some wheels and I've got some questions for the guys/gals out there that have the experience I've yet to aquire for my car. Thank you in advance for any help and/or criticism, any input is appreciated. However it ends up I'm pretty stuck on doing staggered fit.
1. I'm having a hard time finding a style that I love in my budget that is roughly the same offset as the 135s (my car had the 137s when I bought it 17x8 +47 on 205/50s- way wrong fit IMO). My 1st question is what's roughly the minimum and maximum offsets I can fit on a 330ci zhp?
2. I also can't decide if I want a staggered lip large in the back, or if I want the concave staggered. 2nd question, is the large lip played out on the e46? I like it but I'm really starting to like the concave look more.
3. Final question for now. I found a set of really nice style 219, e90 m3 oem I like a lot. But, I'm sure I know the answer will they even come close to fitting stock suspension? Front 18x8.5 et29 rear 18x9.5 et23.
I'm noticing that most of the concave oem are on e9x and f30 and from what I can dig up have different offsets. I've been using danewilson77's sticky and calculator as well as willtheyfit, but it's hard for me know for sure since my current wheels are so drastically inset and from as far as I can measure quite a bit will fit with the right combo of camber and fender roll. I'm not opposed to either but would like to bolt something up soon.
My favorites so far are style 219 220 193 and 184.
Aftermarket beyern mesh, vmr v701 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/160894353464?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT which I feel iffy about bc of the price and no name behind it.
Again any and all help is greatly appreciated.
15532 best picture I have of current setup on the rear.

If I were you I would put some hyper silver apex arc8 on the zhp. It would pop with the black paint.

18x8.5 or 18x9 square on all 4 corners.

I do like those. And with a squared set up I would get the dish on all 4 corners. I was originally lookin for chrome for the "pop" but there are few choices to choose from. Hyper black looks good in pictures too with an apparent gloss to them but I agree about the silver.

So the ZHP has what's considered high offset, 45-51mm. We're 47 front & 51 rear on our ZHPs. E90 & F30' have medium offset, 32-39 offset. E46 M3 has low rear offset in the 22-28mm range, I think e90 M cars are in the same range. On our ZHP cars, you can take them to the medium offset range with spacers but our wheel wells can't accommodate the low offset wheels without fender modifications.

Most aftermarket wheels that people buy are 18's or 19's fronts usually no bigger than 8.5" wide and offset around 35. Rears most won't go past 9.5 wide and offset around 38 ish.

I can't thank y'all enough, every time I have an issue everyone is so quick to help. Bcs you've helped a lot and smiles your previous posts should be combined in one topic for newbies like me. Summed up I pretty much gathered I need to search aftermarket or quality replicas tailored to our offset. I've found a few good used sets of 19s but also what I've gathered they require too small a tire for a good ride. I found some on another e46 forum that claim 0 miles 19x8.5/19x9.5 on 235/35f 255/30 r. Sounds like rubber bands to me. Is sticking to 18s wise?

18's are typically a better ride, 19's look better but sacrifice some ride quality. What is your price range for rims?

Would like to stay under $1200 for wheels. I've got a buddy at discount that can help with tires.

18's are nice. I personally like the look better than 19's and facts are they provide an easier ride, wheels and tires will be less expensive, the wheels (if made from the same material/methods) will be less prone from cracking hitting pot holes as there's more rubber cushion and will probably be easier to sell and hold their value...

Dig the miro wheels too 112 and 368.

VMR is always a good choice too. Seems like everyone buys those.

I'm not sure how your roads in Houston are, are potholes a problem? If bad roads, stick with 18's; if the roads are good, 19's sure set the car off nice. I do not find any ride quality difference between the 18s & 19s, maybe my butt isn't sensitive enough to notice. Here's VMR 710s, 19 x 8.5 et35 with 235/35/19 on the front and 19 x 9.5 et45 with 265/30/19 on the rear. Potholes are an issue in Virginia so these are on the car from mid-March until Thanksgiving and then my son runs his stock 135s for the winter time.

Iowa is worse, all the combine and tractors tear up the roads. But the roads here are really bad

Well look at that. Lightest wheels comparatively, same style and... just under $1200

My work computer wouldn't load this page all day. The vmr seem to have the best vote. Several suggestions about a particular brand usually means a decent product. I do like them too, but there is something about the miro I like but not much consumer feedback on them so... That makes it tougher.

Oh and yes h town roads are pretty rough, at least the roads I do most driving to and from work. I like the idea of maybe squeezing a 265 on an 18" or a little more tire options at least, with the 18. Plus a decently meaty tire looks better than rubber bands IMO.

Of the styles you mention, I'd go with the Apex EC7. Lighter and stronger than the others you are considering. VMR is the cheapest (but heaviest, some concerns about quality. Google it and read the reviews), AG best compromise with performance and price. Apex best but most expensive.

All are nice and depending on your intended use can serve you well.

Buy these. If I was in the market for wheels there would be no question. Pay for shipping, these wheels are worth it.

FYI, these wheels were a very expensive option...

+1! Road trip. They have tires and might be tricky to ship. Great wheels though.

Not to Houston though; that is waaaaaaaaaaaay too far away. Needs to be a one day trip.

I doubt anyone would be willing to pay a few hundred extra for shipping since that's about what it'll cost me to package them up and send with a service that's worth a damn (tires are still mounted). :(

For S&G, see what http://www.shipgreyhound.com says. I figure they'd weigh 48lbs or so??

Let's worry about finding someone who really wants them first. :\

If someone wants them, gotta consider the Mafia express. BP drives them to a member within a day's trip, that member does the same, repeat this process until it reaches the waiting recipient. What's not to like???

VMR is great I've worked with them many times actually but the weight savings from the apex (and durability) is the best at that price point so I would HIGHLY consider them.

I just got my 2nd set of ec7s last night actually. Couldn't be happier and the weight savings gives me a few extra ponies!
