so, i picked up a set of OE E9x M3 ContiSportContacts for cheap recently - they are basically take-offs, production date is late 2011.

i am currently running OE-sized general gmax AS-03's which came with my 135Ms - they are fine for commuting but other than that, i do not like them.

so, i'm sitting here with this set of contis in my garage, wondering if i can get away with the 0.9" larger in diameter 255/40/18 tire in the rear of my sedan. anyone done it before?

can i re-calibrate my speedometer with BMWScan?

What are the offsets?

EDIT: never mind. Tire size will be fine.

forgot to mention i am running 10mm front, 12.5mm rear spacers. i don't see any rubbing issues, it was the diameter and potentially 'that looks funny' that i was concerned about. perhaps i'll just mount them and see. the generals are uninspiring.

Au2Bahn used to run 235/35/19 front & 265/30/19 rear on a ZHP sedan on KW2s which are the same diameter you're talking about in the 18's.

yeah, but that's much closer to 255/35/18 than 255/40.18 - 25.3" overall diameter vs 26" for the 40 series.

that's also 25.3" diameter - quite a bit smaller than 255/40/18 (26").

hmmm.

Peter, the 255/40/18 is the stock tire size for a e46 M3, they should fit. It will mess up the calibration of your speedo a bit but not much. And on the look, the 0.7" difference will be on both sides of the centerline of the wheel, so will you even notice a 0.35" difference in height, probably not. And it will fill your wheelwell a little better, I'd say go for it. Bruce

well, stock size is 25", so it's 0.5" on either side - i think that's noticeable. i dunno. i guess i'll try it!
