Technically they're both OE...

I like both of them depending on what mods are on the car. Can't really vote because for me it's dependent on mods.

I think a third choice would be a combo, I might add it if I can. Clear tails with amber side markers/front indicators or vice-versa.

I like what came with my car which is clear, and that looks good on black. But dang, amber really looks good Imola. I'm going to vote clear as it's a cleaner look to me.

I understand various parts with mods that are either more aggressive looking or less, but I don't get why ambers vs. clears has to do with mods... car to enlighten me? Very curious.

Clears for colors. I prefer amber on Black since its so colorless.

Let me explain.

I believe every car has a personality, based on its condition, the way it drives, and the way it makes you interact with it. You can put three ZHPs side by side, and they will not be the same, even if the colors and options are similar.

Daniel,
Your car to me screams "clean and innocent". As a result, I'd go amber on yours, as clears do not give an innocent appearance at all. Clears are more of a "snarky", "fresh", or "stoic" attitude. My car got clears because she will please you but will take absolutely no bullshit and has an attitude. She's got the dark, reclusive personality, but isn't afraid to get all up in your face if asked to.

Your car just seems like a happy-go-lucky innocent ZHP to me. Its low mileage, super duper clean exterior, and overall super positive owner just doesn't seem to speak "clears" to me.

This is a totally "feel" thing for me, I can't really explain it.

I've never seen or driven your car in person, so it's a little hard to say. Which car are we talking about exactly?

I would never mix and match intentionally. To me that screams "halfass", but that's just me personally.
The third choice in this case, if staying with OE style lights, would be smoked.

I personally stayed with Ambers because I like the ambers. It adds color to my black car. I prefer the clears on the red, because the amber is too close of a color shade to the red and makes the taillights look a little off and blends in all wrong IMO.

I think the ambers on your car make it more badass. Everything is dark which gives it the badass look (especially with your StopTech calipers), but there's that little flair (the ambers) that says "but I have a sense of humor too". It's like that guy that everyone thinks is really serious but when you talk to him find out he's funny as hell. That guy!

(and by funny I don't mean funny looking, I mean it has personality)

Same reason automatic high beams are illegal here. Those AWESOME LED selective high beams in the Audi A8 are not legal in the states cause of some law requiring high beams to have a manual switch override.

What about clears on AW?

az3579
11-18-2014, 07:20 PM
What about clears on AW?

All of this, in my opinion of course:
AW doesn't really have much of a choice. Clears are the only way to go because it's more cohesive with the color. Ambers look out of place on an Alpine White car because they fit neither the "they match" criteria nor the "clever contrast" categories. It's kind of hard to pull off ambers on Alpine. The clears give it a 'fresh as hell' look, and definitely fit the "they match" category of apperance as they most closely match Alpine White in color.

With that being said, I feel you'd have to mod the crap out of the car visually to pull off ambers, and whether that's successful totally depends on what mods are done. With clears, you don't even have to mod it any other way for it to look good.

Dunno. Haven't seen it in person nor have I seen interior shots. Hard to tell as-is.
It looks good, I just can't get a feel for its personality yet without seeing more.

Stephen, side note...what size tires and wheels do you run again? And how much better does the car feel? Love the way it looks in that side profile.

17x8.5" square. 245/45/17 rear. 245/40/17 front. I bought 2 used wheels/tires that came with the 245/45/17. Not sure if I'll get that size again. It's not OEM but I think it looks a little bad ass.

In terms of feel... Great! The car is noticeably quicker in acceleration. Haven't done much in terms of autocross but I'm looking forward to it. It's definitely a worthy upgrade.

It's all subjective in the end. I like the clears. But it's your decision. Free or $500...spend the money where it needs to be spent.

This. Ambers are pretty worthless value-wise in the states since they're a dime a dozen.

I bought my car with clears already on so nothing out of my pocket. Didn't like the look on Mystic so I swapped with Shawn for his Ambers. I guess I could've sold them for much more to make a profit -- didn't realize their worth until now -- here's to hoping good karma comes my way soon..
