So last May I had purchase a new set of Apex ARC-8 wheels for the zhp

It was a square set-up of 18x8.5 et38 and mounted a new set of tires in factory sizing.

Fast forward to today. Mounting a new set of tires on the wheels in a square 235/40/18. Get notified that th e one wheel has a bend and a crack. I was shocked to hear this.

Went out to see the wheel and this is what I saw.

The outside of the wheel is fine.

I will be calling apex first thing Monday morning and letting them know. According to their website it is a 2 year structural warranty under normal use.

I am also very surprised since when I was looking for wheels everyone only had good things to say about apex. Hopefully they will warranty it.

Even the best products have a failure rate.

I've heard of situations like this from APEX but they are usually abnormal use. Hell, Performance Technic's 1M Clone (S85 powered 135i with 1M wide body) bent his HRE wheels going over a berm at Thunderhill Raceway.

Probably erroneous but I'd still raise my eyebrows.

Stock 135s have a similar problem too right?

Yeah, but everyone knows that. Apex aren't exactly known to crack as far as I'm concerned, unless I live under a rock.

I've heard of a few here and there but all of them were track related.

I've given mine a fair share of abuse and haven't had any issues

You barely have any sidewall... Honestly I'm not surprised.

The wheel that is cracked had a 255/35/18 mounted on it which is a factory tire size. I went to a square tire set-up of 235/40/18 which is what you see mounted now.

The tire was partially removed from the rim in the first pictures.

Car was never tracked or put through abuse. Unless my mother took it to a hpde or autocross and ran off the course.

if its a 2 year structural warranty i can't see why they wouldn't honor that..........i would expect it.

I put APEX rims on my daughter's BMW 325 after she bent/broke the OEMs - she hasn't damaged the APEX. yet.....

They are typically really good.

I got my ARC8s via GB last year and has some minor specks on the wheels. While they don't typically warranty paint errors but they credited me $50 for the flaws. Which I was perfectly fine with and didn't really even have a big deal with.

Hope I'm not too late to this thread, but as some may know, I bought two used ARC-8s this summer with mounted tires; both were badly bent.

My newbie mistake aside, the wheels were 17x8.5" with 245/45/17 tires mounted; plenty of sidewall, if you ask me. I don't have any history on the age of the wheels or the car they were on.
