I recently picked up a gently used AFE stage 2 intake for my car and tried to install it yesterday but I'm having issues fitting the MAF to the intake. The previous owner said he ran it fine with no issues.

I looked up the installation guide on the AFE site and it says for our cars, we should be able to put the MAF sensor directly into the intake without the rubber gasket it comes with. The side thats supposed to go into the intake is too big and it won't go in at all. However, the opposite side of MAF fits perfectly but unfortunately, thats the wrong direction.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way around it?

Thanks in advance!

What happens if you don't use the 45° elbow?

Haven't tired that. It's safe to mount that way?

Yeah never mind. The intake filter is too big for the maf so it won't work

You don't have the fig E-1 piece installed, correct? Specifically says to not use it with 3.0L engines.

I have that piece and thats actually what I used to make it work. Since the MAF wouldn't fit into the elbow, I put the rubber gasket onto the MAF and stuck the other side onto the elbow housing. Then I used two hose clamps to hold it on and now its working well. No CEL lights or funny sounds.

Thanks Dane!

I just installed and removed mine due to fitment issues, however, you should be able to push the MAF directly into the 45* elbow. Use something to lube both pieces before trying it, but don't go too crazy so that it all doesn't get sucked through the MAF. Mine needed a little bit of trimming on the elbow as well, there was a little bit of build up of casting flash where the tube was rolled.

The connecter on the MAF didn't fit through the hole on the shield when I took the elbow out. I'll probably take mine out as well since I can't get the screw in since it will bend the intake when it presses against the headlights.
