Nothing against Khoalty, all posts I've seen on here for them have been positive and I'm sure they have a great product, just want to cover other options as well. I recently got my Orion V2's from Umnitza and they are awesome, put them on this past weekend...love em. Good price, easy install, helpful staff even emailed me a DIY as well.

I had Orion V2's on my 325 and was very happy with them. Two years and no problems.

How is the light output/fitment of Khoalty vs Orion V2's? I'm about to put in an order for some AE's (just got started on my halogen to bixenon retrofit....hehehe).

I want them to be noticeable, but not too overly bright. I don't want them reflecting off of the housing and making it look blurry like I've seen in some pictures.

Mine are standard angel eyes that come with depos. ccfl. orange-ish and dim, but bright enough. Exactly what i wanted.

my 2c: Umnitza > Khoalty as far as customer service, I am not satisfied with Khoalty's attitude towards customers, Umnitza's Tim was courteous and professional, a bit more mature... As far as the product, I can't say because I canceled my Khoalty order and got the Predator Orion V2 instead, read much better reviews, but they are A LOT more expensive..

Output was perfect, imo. Bright, but no housing reflection in my case. Fitment was perfect as well.

It was a very easy install.

Couldn't agree more here, I worked with Tim as well and he was awesome, and I only paid $160 fo rmine which I thought was fair. Not sure if that's a lot but in the scheme of things for these cars...that seems cheap to me.

My Orion V2's are in my sig pic, they look absolutely perfect for what I wanted. If they seem "foggy" here it's due to the heavily pitted lenses, which have since been replaced with Depo repro's from Umnitza as well. Now they simply rock...

Thanks, I love this color as well, my favorite car color. Yes I did install them (along with every single other light/lens in the car was replaced), it was actually pretty easy, not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm pretty handy mechanically, but electrical jobs always get me so I was a little worried. I used this DIY which is awesome, provided by the tech crew @ Umnitza. Be very careful when removing the headlight lenses, I broke two tabs on the black inner "housing" the first time I took them off. Take it slow, clip by clip. I found it easier to remove the airbox to get the rubber boot on/off the drivers side light as well, it's only 2 bolts and a hose clamp. Let me know if you have any other questions or want some more/better pics, it's no sweat.

Yeap, got that one "favorited" already. I am not getting the remote, is that for dimming or on/off? I want mine to be always on or on when the light switch is in the 2nd or 3rd position

This switch:

Not sure what the remote is all about honestly. I wired mine hot (always on), so they are on 100% of the time, cannot turn them off. Finally made it to the dealership yesterday to get the DRL's turned off so now it looks perfect. My DRL's were on in every setting unless I had the headlights on, it was annoying. Doesn't look like you have them on your 325 though so you'll save about $85.

you are correct, no DRL, how did you hot wire? here are the instructions that came with the AE: http://www.fastm.com/m3/angeleyes_orionv2.html

CCFL (cold cathode florescent light) are an older AE set up and the are suceptible to cold weather problems (not working) LEDs are much more in use now and are more stable in all temperatures (reliable). It's up to you, CCFL claim to be brighter, my only expierience is LEDs, sorry hope this helps

FL coupe? I thought only Umnitza made LED AEs for FL couples, could be wrong though. However, I've heard really good things about Umnitza Orion V2s so that's what I installed. EDIT: I should add that while I've not heard good things about CCFLs, my installer said that much of that can be attributed to the installer and that he wouldn't NOT buy CCFLs. Personally, I wouldn't due to the fact that it is somewhat older technology and does have more potential issues.

My umnitza predator v2 AEs are nearly full circle but the headlight bezel blocks part of it anyways.

For the folks that installed the Umnitza AE's....what is this new fangled Night Control Technology? Did you guys purchase this option? What does it do???? In a scale of 1 -10, what is the rating of hardship on install? How long did it take? Was the install as what it is on the instructions? Any tips and/or specific precautions that we need to watch out for? Thanks.

Mr hish- I'll take a pic for you when I get home in about 30 minutes.

Das Boots- I did not order that option... Install is straightforward, especially for sedans. Just unclip lenses, clip on AEs, run wires over the headlight itself and out the rear grommet, run wiring from ECU to headlights and connect it and put the lenses back on.

Had I not gotten so confused and realized the connections come out of the little white box, making it much easier to run wires out the back of the headlight casing, I could have had it done in under an hour. Instructions are very clear as well.

Tips: Disconnect the wires from the white box, label them and run them out of the headlight then reconnect them.

The night control is about selecting 70% brightness at nighttime.

Explain more on the little white box and it's connections. If you can provide some photos, that would be great.

There's two wires coming out of each angel eye and so all 4 leads go into a white box with only 2 wires coming out that goes to the harness. You have to disconnect all 4 wires, run them through the back of the headlight, then reconnect them to the box since the box is too big to fit through the back of the headlight.

das boots
12-21-2011, 05:07 PM
So where do you put the box if not behind the headlights?

HokieZHP

I used some double-sided tape and taped it to a flat spot I found behind the headlight casing.

BP,

Some kits come with a white box for each side. Umnitza's come to mind here iirc. Other kits do not have this. Personally, I prefer kits that are simplified....does not have the white boxes. The set I got from Jlevi SW did not have those white boxes but if I were to get another kit and it did come with those white boxes, I would do what Dane did....mount them in the drug bin...:) Good spot for them!
