Super nice car. A bit steep on the price, though...

Nope. Very clean E30's in STOCK form go for amounts in that neighborhood. A swapped one at that price is not bad at all, especially one that has been exceptionally done up like this one.

I want this car very badly.

very good price for (just looking at pictures) a seemingly super clean inside/out swapped E30. good call on the ZF trans and 3.93 diff as well. I sold my m52 swapped e30 for $14.5k (2-3k overpriced but i started out at $15k and found that "right buyer" before it sat for too long and had to lower it down to what it was worth).

Non-M E30's selling for those numbers? Jeebus. I should've sat on a few of the E30's I owned. That's outrageous. Seems like just 2-3 years ago they were barely fetching $5,500 - $7.5 for a 24v swap.

i wouldn't say that car was worth the $14.5k it brought but found someone fairly quickly that wanted it. i think it was realistically worth around 12.

You are correct. Just a few short years ago, very nice E30's were around $5-6k. Now they're double that. It doesn't make any sense.
You can't even find a decent unmolested E30 M3 for less than $20k nowadays.

Keep in mind, the high-value E30's are ones that are sought after; M42 318i/is and 325i/is models. The 325e's and M10 318i's still get no love (for damn good reason), but even those are pretty high, between 3-4k.

That car is not worth it in Cali since it hasn't been reffed. If it was legal I can see asking that price

if you buy it and live in a state where they have emissions testing, otherwise, who cares.

The point is it's for sale in California, but it's not a legal California car. That makes a huge difference in who is willing to buy it. Personally I think that if you want to do an engine swap in our commie state you should know the rules. When you just do your swap and hope everything works out you're an idiot since the car can be impounded and sold by the state.

Not to steal the thread but really how bad is Cali emissions and whatever goes with it? As I am moving out to California in the next 6 months for college I guess I should get informed.

California emissions are the strictest in the country - if you have a heavily modified car or swap or installed headers and lack a cat - good luck.

If you are coming as a student, you should not have to register your car here unless you plan to claim residency. As a student you may be exempt (I think you have to be under 24 and not working) - I don't know about work-study.

I don't see how that first one is emissions approved when it was originally OBDII and then converted to OBDI...

It depends on the ref who does the approval, and back then it was easier to get away with stuff. I'm not saying I like any of these cars more than the other, but if it was me as a resident of CA I want to see that approval sticker before I fork any money over for a possible registration headache. As long as the state has approved it before the car merely needs to maintain how it was approved.

Damn that's nice. Acquiring the M Coupe last year helped to scratch the itch that I had for an S52 swapped E30, but I'd still love to have one.

I live in SoCal. A lot of my friends have gotten their cats stolen or just drive rice rockets...

You can drive to East LA and pay $200 to get approved for smog. Not bad since it's only every 2 years. I don't know anyone who's been pulled over because of noise but you just have to be careful where you floor it...
