I'll be putting on the front set of these this week. Below are some of the quotes I've found from the vendors and have only seen a few reviews on them. Anybody else using them yet?

The pads feature a Ferro-Carbon compound and offer advanced braking characteristics to enhance the driving experience. This new compound combines the safety and quality of aerospace design with the braking technology of motorsports for improved performance under heavy braking situations.

Key Features:
Pushing the Limits of ABS
Decreased stopping distances
Improved pedal feel from initial pressure through entire pedal stroke
Minimal fade under Higher Temps
High friction/torque hot or cold
Gentle on rotors
Very quiet, low noise
Improved braking over OE pads
Extended pad life

Better stopping power even when the pads are cold
Good initial bite (more than on Hawk HPS)
Excellent resistance to fade during street use
Moderate dust during normal street driving
Quiet operation
Easy on rotors

Comment: The Hawk High Performance Street 5.0 pads are built from their highly successful HPS line but with more torque and initial bite. They are a premium performance street pad that works best under aggressive driving. They have been engineered to give exceptional braking power on the street without the downsides of a race pad.

I bet it's set to compete with the stoptech performance street pads. I wonder what the MOT on these are.

sounds good, guy. curious to hear your thoughts - and also nice that they improved initial bite 'pedal feel throughout the stroke', because those are two gripes i definitely had with the older HPS.

thanks for posting this info!

Hmm interested in hearing more about them.

I had put a front set of Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads, on my wife's 06 330Cic and was very impressed. From what they say, these are better so, I'm very curious as to the BETTER of GREAT.

Finished installing them tonight and took her out for a short ride to Bed them in. Several hard stops from 60-80. The DCS was modulating like crazy but no problem stopping and the distance seamed to be shorter every time. Back to normal driving and they did just fine, very smooth, no grab, no noise.

Looks like good weather tomorrow so, I'll take her to work and get a better feeling.

Good for the first 30 miles. I'll report back after have a few miles on them. Will also be changing out the rears in a few weeks.

First Review; Hawk High Performance Street 5.0 Brake Pads

Completed the rears on the first of the month and since then, I done a little highway driving, an autocross and the twisty back roads on the way to work and back. As of today, I'm impressed.

Low dust
Outstanding braking power
No noise
They feel good
The pedal is firm but, not to firm
No initial hard bite, like ceramics
An obvious reduction in stopping distance
Smooth

One of the things hat is significantly different is how they stop. Just a slight increase in pedal pressure and your speed reduces faster. Very easy to manipulate. I now have to retrain myself on some of my braking points. Using what I've grown use to, is to premature for and decreases my speed far lower than my ZHHP can handle.

At this point, I would recommend them.

So you mentioned that the initial/cold bite is not so great like ceramics. I am running HPC's and am disappointed in feel. I wanted a reduction in the dust from stock pads.

Looks like the search continues.

I thought he said otherwise:

I took this as reduced cold/initial bite.

If you want consistent bite regardless of cold or hot, I highly recommend EBC Redstuff pads. They'll last a really long time and I can safely say that your wheels will look clean 2 weeks later.

What I meant was; their not grabby, or have a hard initial bite hot or cold like I got with my Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads. And, although you don't notice that grab, your speed reduces rapidly. It's very hard to explain in words, all I can say is, that I need to relearn the correct brake pedal pressure for the actual stopping distance. It has changed enough that it is very noticeable.

I've had my set of Hawk HPS 5.0 pads in for a couple hundred miles and I've liked them so far. They're matched with BMW Performance cross-drilled rotors.

Notes:

I bedded them following Hawk's prescribed bedding procedure of a few 30-5 mph stops to warm up the rotors followed by several 45-5 mph stops. I planned to do the procedure a second time but never got the chance (it was raining a bunch and felt it best to bed the brakes when conditions were dry).
No squeaking or brake chatter whatsoever.
Braking distance feels shorter than OEM pads I had on. Braking Gs feel stronger at full brake pedal application.
As Guy said, there isn't that initial bite that the OEM pads have. However, the Hawk pads are linear and progressive i.e. the harder you push on the brake pedal, the stronger the braking power. It's very easy to modulate and I prefer it now to the OEM setup.
I can't speak to dust production since I haven't cleaned my car or the wheels in ages. I will report back when I have data for this.
Pedal feel is great, maybe a smidge deeper into the pedal travel to get initial braking than before.
Very smooth overall, and I would recommend the setup to anyone looking for a bit more performance with no noise.

After reading about these pads I've been eager to install them as my pads (unknown brand) get the wheels rather dirty after a few days of driving. I still have 11mm in the front and 5 in the rear but when they get lower I'll be sure to grab a set.

Wondering if to get these or the stoptech pads.

Stoptech are a little bit cheaper so was wondering if these are worth the price increase.

I have no idea what is on Sketchi.

According to tirerack.com

Hawk 5.0 are

Front - $90.00
Rear - $101.00

Stoptech

Front - $71.00
Rear - $51.00

I still am enjoying mine thoroughly. I should say that there is maybe an extra 1/4" to 1/2" of pedal travel than before, but it doesn't bother me. As stated before, no real initial bite, but they brake hard and linearly with pedal input in a way that I really like.

Also, very low dust production so far.

I have Hawks But Kristen isn't sure whether she got HPS or HP+ because they are squealing and the + tend to squeal. They started sqeeling after a few thousand miles
They are low dust which I'm happy about. Like everyone has said, the initial bite isn't as good as OEM but after that, they are good.

Funny you say that about the pedal travel, I noticed the same thing and it was around the same time I did a fluid swap... I thought F'd up the process. Bled them a bunch of times and even had the dealership do it while Kristen was still working there....

I have the Stoptech pads and I wouldn't consider them a performance pad. The initial bite is lacking and they perform fine without a lot of dust but they are not as good as Redstuff pads or Hawk HP in my experience. I have 5 autocross sessions on them and I'm not impressed. Will keep them for DD duties and will swap them out in the summer when I go autocrossing during the summer months.

They sound like a great pad for the street and daily use. Plus the cost is alot attractive.

Any opinions on the Brembo Blank rotors? Are they coated to prevent rust on the hub and rotor face?

Thanks for the input. Do they bite less than stock? Or just lacking the initial bite compared to stock?
