As some of you guys know, I am the new owner of a 2004 IR/6MT Sedan ZHP with only 83k miles! I started my search about a year ago and gave up because I was having zero luck. Then one day I randomly logged back on to ZHPmafia and went to classifieds and saw a ZHP that caught my eye. I wasn't even looking to buy, but the deal was too good. I am so excited about this car. The quality of it is so much better than my previous car. I love modifying cars so that I can make it my own. My progression thread may be a little slow though, as I am a 20-year-old college student, so maintenance must come first! I bought the car for a really great deal. After thorough inspections of the car, the only thing it needs mechanically is a new oil feed line, it is dripping just a tad bit of oil and maybe new shocks soon. Cosmetically, it is in decent shape with some things I am going to fix.

Here are some pictures:

Hello there ! What about a new set of Khoalty headlight lenses ? They go for $80 ... $124 if you order the seals. Maybe you can start with this and then retrofit later.

FL116

Yeah I will definitely be getting new lenses also, I was just going to install them at the same time I do the retrofit. Kill 2 birds with one stone lol

Makes sense. Oh, about the brakes. Dont know what kind of pads you have. The OEM make a lot of brake dust. On the e90 I changed to Akebono ceramic pads and love the results. Perhaps you can consider this when it's time to replace the brake pads.

I'll look into it! Thanks! My buddy has a 335i and he gets a ton of brake dust.

FL116

I just want better light output, and I'm not going to get that with Halogens. And the retrofit is only like $200, which is a good upgrade to me.

OK. I was pretty happy with the halogens on my last car. But if it's only ~$200...

I mean,,, the output of these halogens is much better than the halogens on my previous car. Maybe I will get the new lenses and then I can decide if I want to do the retrofit or not.

I found a killer deal on some BBS wheels w/tires for $1k. But I honestly think I want to put that money towards an exhaust and other mods before I do wheels. I really like the ZHP stock wheels

So just an idea.... I can buy a OBX catback exhaust that has stainless steel, mandrel bent piping for $465. Does anyone have the OBX exhaust that can give me some insight on the sound? I had an OBX catback exhaust on my last car. When I bought (only $300), I planned on swapping out the mufflers to get a better sound, but I actually ended up liking the sound of it, so I kept it. The main reason I like this system is because it has good material and mandrel bent pipes. Or should I just hold out and get the tse3? Thanks

As for the positive, the grilles came in and were painted black! Also installed Lamin-x yellow fogs. Ill get better pictures soon

And also on the list. Going to be ordering
-New Headlight Lenses from Khoalty
-Aux Input Kit from Turner Motorsports
-Coby Wheel re-wrap

Newbie here. I'm getting my brakes done now, and I hadn't even thought about getting ceramic pads. What's the cost difference for these ceramic pads vs OEM? Are they compatible with OEM rotors, or have to be paired with something specific on the rotors? I've heard that ceramic pads can squeal - ever had that problem with these? I may call my mechanic tomorrow and tell him to hold off on the OEM's...

The car looks great! Was it one listed over in the classifieds? I've never gotten an aftermarket exhaust, but from my experience, a lighter set of wheels does wonders. My father owns a NA Miata that I've been driving around until I found my car, and when he swapped out the stock wheels for BBS wheels (they weigh just 11 lbs each, 25ish lbs total in each corner with tires), it transformed the car. It's like a go cart, handles exactly like a car should, and is absolutely planted. I'm considering doing a square set up with lighter wheels on my car in the future because of that. That said, don't let me dissuade you from an exhaust set up, just putting in my $0.02 for the magic that is a lighter wheel set up.

Trust me, I believe you. The only decision is what to get first lol we will see. I am enjoying the car exactly how it is right now, so I might just hold off on the exhaust for a little. I still have to fix some small things. I definitely want to get the Coby wrap for the steering wheel

Sad news... replaced the oil feed line, but the car is still leaking a little bit of oil. I'm not sure if it is leaking from the work that the dealership did before I bought it, but I'm going to get it checked this week.

Some other news: The guy who I bought the Roundels from sent me the center caps to the wheels, he keeps saying the packages got mixed up and to send the center caps back, but I'm not returning them unless my roundel is delivered. But whatever, it was only $10, Ill just keep the center caps. I'll just have to buy new roundels.

Good news: The Khoalty Lenses came in! I do not have the new seals yet, so I will havr to wait to install them.

So new bumper trim is installed. Other mods might be on hold for a little. Some things I have started to come up... I am going to be moving so the search is on. Also, some other stuff work related is kind of iffy at the moment. Hopefully everything works out and I can start working more on the car. So if you all could send your prayers for those situations that would be great. Very tough spot right now.

But on the bright side, my Coby Wheel should be coming in next week. :D

Also. In addition to everything said above in my last post ^^. I'm not sure if anyone has heard about what happened at Walt Disney World Exotic Car Driving Experience this past Sunday. A driving instructor passed away when the driver lost control of the vehicle around a turn and the car hit the side of a barrier on the passenger side. The instructor's name was Gary, and he was a fantastic man. My bestfriend works there and Gary was his manager. Gary was my friend also. I was just there last weekend where I was able to get a free ride along in a Ferrari 430, with the permission of Gary. He was an awesome guy and had a 1-year-old daughter :(. This is truly heartbreaking and Gary will never be forgotten. Please keep those families and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this hard time. RIP GT.

So today is a bitter-sweet day as I had a to part ways with my beloved G6. It was my first car so it meant a lot. Although it wasn't the most well-built car, it will always a have a place in my heart.

Ironically, when I went to deliver the car to the buyer, the tire was flat.... :facepalm but I called the buyer, put the spare on, and he said he will just get it patched later. But the car is now done and the main focus is now the ZHP :D

Here are some pictures of the 6er: You will be missed.

It comes fairly easy. Is there a way to get it so it doesn't come off easily when shifting quickly? I feel like this has happened to some of you. Any advice will be helpful thanks.

You need a new shift knob. BMW in their infinite German wisdom decided to use plastic clips instead of threads. So when the plastic gets old and brittle, off pops the knob. I think people have rigged them to stay on after their clips broke but you'd need to search around for what to do.

I ran mine to the oddments tray so it would be hidden under the armrest. In the box above the ashtray may be a nice hidden area as well.

I like to put my phone in the front cup holder so in my 2003 330Ci I put it in the sunglass/upper compartment in the center console like so:

19411

It was a good, unobtrusive spot for the port but the cord would go over the center console and the shifter so after a while it was annoying. So in my ZHP I decided to route it by the rear cup holder for three reasons: 1. the port was hidden away under the armrest and 2. the cord wouldn't clutter the shifter or block the center console and 3. the cord could reach the rear seats without out having an unnecessarily long cord. It is like so (link is to my build thread):

That's actually very impressive. For some reason I remember riding in a friend's 350Z years ago and thinking it was not very large inside. In for your thoughts on the 370!

Left at 4am this morning and just arrived in Alabama a few hours ago, and honestly the trip wasn't too bad. Granted, I am a taller individual so it may not have as comfortable to me as it would to someone shorter. But even for me, I didn't have any problem with the car. Felt very good on the highway and averaged about 26 mpg.

19510

Spent the day at the new house on the Gulf and this was my first time seeing it and there was one thing that I fell in love with IMMEDIATELY. The garage.

19511

It is a 'barn' type garage and it is huge! Can easily fit 6-7 cars inside. I wish I was living there, I would never leave that garage lol I snapped a few pictures of the Z since I don't have the ZHP.

19512
19513

It looks small on the outside, but its not.
19515

Overall, the trip up here was nice and the power in the 370z is very good. And I also find the automatic rev-matching to be pretty cool. I will admit, they did a good job with that.

Haven't really done much with the ZHP lately, but today I gave her a nice interior cleaning =) :thumbsup

19593

And something else I was thinking about today, the car may look like its a "ready-to-go" car, but in my eyes, there is still so much to work on and detail. The exterior was washed and waxed yesterday and the interior was cleaned today, tomorrow's challenge is the engine bay :D

Alright, so not really any updates on the ZHP right now. New lenses will be installed this week.

As for other news, I just finished my first 2 years of college and got my AA!!! Lets goo!!! Super excited and finished with straight A's! Now to move on to finish the next 2 years! With that being said, it is now summer and I can finally work more hours at my job and earn more money for mods for the ZHP. Just want to thank you all for the support and awesome community that you provide! I am definitely looking foward to getting to know you guys better and hopefully be able to make one of the reunions! Try swapping the bulbs from the left side to the right side. Also check if your grounds are good as the Taillights have been part of a bad ground recall.

Not much going on with the ZHP, but I'd figure I would give you guys some updates. Finally fixed the taillight issue, bought a new bulb carrier and fixed the problem.

Car just took it's first long road trip from Orlando to Mobile. Did the whole road trip on one tank of gas. Averaged over 30+ MPHs. Very impressed by the gas mileage of this car.

As for mods. Not going to be doing too much to the car in the next few months due to me moving and getting settled into a different place. BUT...

Angel Eyes have just been ordered, and I am still deciding if I want to pick up a set of Club Sport splitters. I will have pics of the AE's once installed.

Hope everyone here is doing great. Sorry I haven't been as active lately because of the move.

That's the brand I had in my '03 330Ci. I liked them very much. I will say when you install them, use electrical tape between the attachment tabs and the headlight housing to make sure they don't shift around. Mine did after a couple months and I had to take the headlights apart again to tape them into place.

Okay guys, so the oil leak has become worse. I got an oil change about 3k miles ago and I am almost out. I didn't realize how much oil it was leaking until the oil drip light came on the dash today... here are some pictures of the oil under/on the engine.... any thoughts on what it could be? Im going to take it to the shop on monday to get it checked. But Im thinking its possibly the valve cover gasket or the O-ring on the bottom of the oil filter housing. I am topping it off with oil until I get it checked.

I haven't updated this project thread in a while. Nothing is new with the car in terms of mods, but I recently replaced the OFHG and the oil leak has stopped! Not sure if I can do it myself, but does anyone know how to reset the "Oil leak" light on the dash? It comes on occassionally but turns off after some time. I have checked the oil level and leakage and there is none.

The yellow oil can light? I get that light on from time to time and my oil level is perfect. I plan to replace the oil level sensor next oil change, along with a switch to Mobil 0W-40 oil from BMW 5W-30, which some people say can interfere with the oil level sensor. Part numbers:

Oil level sensor - 12617508003
Gasket - 12611744292

Okay, so it's just "recommending" a MAF, but that could possibly not be an issue. I would start simple. Start with checking your intake boot for cracks. Ensure all of the boots and intake components are properly installed (clamps tight, boots fully inserted, etc.).

Okay, so my tail light dash light came on AGAIN today. I know it is because that recall has not been performed (the one where they relocate the ground). Since this has not been performed, am I allowed to have BMW replace it? Last time I asked them, they said no because it wasn't in their recall system. But I'm tired of paying money for new bulb carriers and I shouldn't have to spend more money on a tail light grounding kit when it was recalled years ago.

As far as future mods/maintenance go, the only performance mod I will be doing soon is a muffler delete. All maintenance from there. I am very happy with how the car sits as it is. I will be working on tiny interior stuff as well. My CEL is off now and the car isn't running lean anymore, turns out it was the DISA O-Ring, and it was a very simple install. Hope everyone here is doing well.

1. You can go the route of removing the grille to spray it completely or replace it. I planned on doing that and then I got lazy and settled for taping off the grille and spray painting it. It looks great, cost a total of about $7 for the paint and the painter's tape. It's really not a bad job at all.

2. How wide are your CHs then, or what is their offset?

I'll just leave this here... I'm in love with this muffler. It's awesome!

Now quick question. I am going to delete the second resonator to give the exhaust a little more loud :) should I do straight-pipes or should I try to go with an x-pipe? Any input is appreciated.

Mind sharing the cost and the brand of the windshield?

I am thinking of having Safelite replace the windshield on my wife's car.

Did you also get a new cowl and windshield gasket?

Vas,

Safelite came and replaced the windshield for free. In Florida, insured drivers get windshields replaced/repaired for free, its a safety law.

I did not get a new cowl or gasket, but I need to because the one I currently have is very brittle and is cracking badly.

And for some not so good news about the windshield. I went to wash the ZHP, and inspected the windshield furthur and found that the windshield is not placed very well. It is placed too low and does not sit flush at the roof line. I should have noticed before, but I will be calling Safelite tomorrow to have this fixed. Also, the "gaps" are not even and it doesn't sit well with me. In addition to this, I will be requesting an OEM windshield, since they will probably have to replace the windshield again.

I also added a windshield banner from ECS Tuning. I think it looks nice and the silver is a good color for it.

Nope, just took off the underguard of the bumper and squeezed some cardboard between the bumper and radiator, very simple to do, then taped off the bumper.

I'm not sure what Bryant used, but I went with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Semi-Gloss Protective Enamel spray paint (http://www.lowes.com/pd/Rust-Oleum-Enamel-Stops-Rust-Black-Rust-Resistant-Enamel-Spray-Paint-Actual-Net-Contents-15-oz/50257747) when I did mine. Worked great.

So I decided to tackle the DISA today. I recieved the G.A.S. Repair Kit. I'll be honest, I was nervous to do this because it seemed intimidating (I'm not used to repair kits lol). But the install went great and it was very easy to do using the G.A.S. DIY instructions. Car sounds so much better now. Haven't driven it yet (I want the threadlock to dry some), but I expect the car will feel much better and won't feel like its bogging down anymore. Definitely advise people to use this kit. :cheers

EDIT: Just drove the car, and WOW! The car feels so alive now. Feels completely different now that this is replaced. No more rough idle and ticking noises.

Haha nope. I'm shamelessly hoping for a full Corsa exhaust to pop up at a decent price in my area, or a BMW Performance exhaust :begging

Maybe my mind will change with time :biggrin

Good luck. It will take time, but be patient on the Corsa. I wouldn't be able to spend that much $$ on a catback so this worked out perfectly for me.

Nice purchase!!!

I got OEM rack from local craigslist several month ago and very happy with it. I've done several long trips with two bikes and it was great. Wind noise is very minimal, compare to the Yakima round bars and bike carriers I have on my other car.

Don't loose the screws that mount the rack to the car. I've had them on order since May. Hans is supposed to be finessed forging them in his Bavarian shop this month....

Very nice! I love mine! I have the OEM bike rack as well! If I was to do it again I probably wouldn't get the OEM bike rack. Does it hold the bike? Yes. Is it sketchy seeing the bike wiggle back and forth? ABSOLUTELY!
