I am looking at getting a set of BBS CH wheels from someone and they come with tires. The tires have been sitting in a room for a few years, are they still usable? Tires are Goodyear Eagle F1's and have about 80% tread left. Seller says they are not dry-rotted. Just wondering what the life expectancy is of a tire that has been stored in a room for that long. Do I need to get new tires? I would assume that I would just have to put some air in them. Any input is appreciated. And while I am discussing this, how are the Goodyear Eagle F1's, good or bad?

Per Discount Tire, tires need replacement every 6 to 10 years.

There's a "DOT" number on the sidewall (example, 2712 is the 27th week of 2012) that indicates when they were made. Check that number and report back.

I give them 6 years to be safe. Congrats on the CHs!

I texted the seller, will report back when I get the DOT.

And btw, I've never noticed that that was the production date, so thanks for the info :thumbsup

They are at the 10 year mark. I'm afraid the tires are not good any more due to age. You may still go for the wheels, but don't count on these tires.

Yeah definitely are no good. Well, I guess it a no go on the wheels then. As much as I would love to buy those wheels and consider it as a "maintenance" purchase for the tires, the tires I have now are fine and I can use the money else where. Bummer, but that just means I can get a few other mods instead. And I may just paint my ZHP wheels anthracite grey :thumbsup

Well you can try to negotiate with him, 10 yr old tires hold no value, maybe they'll drop the price accordingly?

Oh, no. I was thinking the wheels' price was really good to miss the deal. Well, time to move to another mods.

Yeah it is a very good deal w/ tires. But since the tires are useless, I would rather put the money towards other mods/maintenance.

amazing to not see any dry-rotting in 10 year old tires, but yes, as a safety concern - i'd pass on the tires. plus - is that a nail in the tread on the first pic??

If stored in a climate controlled location then they should be fine.
