View Full Version : Well, its that time: BBS CH refinish

the staggered 19x8.5F 19x9.5R used BBS CH wheels i scooped for a good deal are finally ready for the refinish after i unloaded the style 44s.

i am very heavily leaning towards doing them in gloss black. they definitely will be powder coated. what are your alls thoughts/opinions on the refinish options?

gloss black? matte black? OE BBS silver? Neon Pink:rofl?

if i go some form of black refinish then that will dictate how the lighting package will be on the car (smoked).

if i go with some sort of OE silver finish, the lighting will stay as is (clear side markers with the R/C/R Euro tails).

I personally am not a fan of black wheels especially on a black car. Black just takes away from the design and the contrast of the wheels vs the car. However I do like a polished look.

On silver gray? My vote is OE silver.

EDIT: Whoops, black exterior. My vote is still OE silver. Or maybe a gunmetal gray. I like some contrast.

This. If you paint a wheel black, then it doesn't matter what wheel you have because you can't see it. CH's are beautiful, too beautiful to hide behind black color, IMO.

I'd do something along the lines of either the stock BBS Diamond Silver, or something like anthracite.
I will be refinishing mine in a color that resembles anthracite.

I want everything to flow with the exterior carbon fiber pieces I have for the car as well and I think a darker color wheel will help compliment all that.

Plus I still plan on acquiring a BMW performance bbk. If I go black, the yellow of those will help show the details of the wheel more if I go black.

I do like them in their current BBS silver color as well. Can't go wrong with that: ever.

You'll only see the part of the wheel that's over the caliper. The rest of it would just stay invisible.

Yellow pops with a grey wheel as well as a silver one. It looked amazing when I had the yellow calipers...

No, I agree with you. I was on your same thought process, just stating that the calipers being a different color would help distinguish the wheel pattern some.

Offf topic but can you weigh the wheels? Just curious how heavy they are.

BTW tirerack.com has a decent way to get an idea of what silver or black would look like on a black zhp.

My back says they're heavy as fawk.
Damn near broke it yesterday moving my CH's into the garage.

i think tirerack.com says they are ~24lbs each for the 18's. not featherweight, but lighter than the 135Ms by 4lbs.

oh come on, BP! i can carry two stock wheels at a time, one in each hand. do some push-ups, man! :)

haha...

I agree with everyone else. Black is too much. Silver would look good or some anthracite/gunmetal color

Maybe this will inspire you.

Anthracite? I prefer the silver though. It just feels more OEM+

yes 10's in the rear, will play it by ear If I need to roll fenders, just installed the cupkit and will let it settle before I mount the CH.

Post some pics up when everything settled and you bolt it up. I've been mildly contemplating a solid shock/spring setup vs coilovers For the car. What did you go with?

iya_e46

I installed H&R touring cupkit, my 2nd set for the same car (sold the old one since I bought it used) it fits my needs since I daily the car and will not have to worry adjusting compare to coilovers. best bang for the buck setup IMO
