Hello Everyone :hi ,

I have recently picked up a 2005 ZHP coupe with 19,000 miles. I am however, not new to BMWs. I am coming from an 03 e46 m3 that I ended up selling due to a great offer. I have also owned a 98 e36 m3 sedan and a 84 e24 633csi. I decided to go with the ZHP due to it having a lot of what the m3 has with out the extreme maintenance. I am sure I will miss the S54, however I will not miss the smg and the specialized maintenance the car required.

I am looking forward to being part of the ZHP community, I found this site by lurking on E46 Fanatics which I also just joined. I am currently a member on M3forum and was a member years ago on bimmerforums, however I have not signed in for about 5 years.

Here are a couple pictures of my new baby, and some of my past Bimmers, let me know what you think!

Thanks,

Dave

Sorry these photos aren't the best, I took them rather quickly (ignore the dirty floor mats)

Great cars, Dave. I bought my ZHP from a fellow ZHP Mafia member (before this site existed) in Denver.

Glad to have you here.

Welcome Dave. Did you purchase the car from Ed Bozarth on County Line? The white pin stripe looked familiar. I was the previous owner of Marcus' car. I can't tell where you took the ZHP photos. Colo Springs area or Tech Center?

Welcome! As others have said, that M looked great! If you're bringing that eye to your ZHP, great things will definitely happen!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I am a fan of oem+ and clean simple modifications, especially for the exterior of my cars. I really like the zhp in its stock form so I am not sure how many changes I will make, with that said i am eyeing the BMW performance intake and have a set of smoked bumper markers waiting to go on :rofl .

You are correct, it is from Ed Bozarth. I was surprised that a GM dealer would have a zhp, however they had no idea what a zhp was (they called it a "sport package") and the car was on their lot for a little while, so I was able to negotiate. The car is in very good condition, I looked it over with a fine tooth comb. To be on the safe side before I went to make a deal I called bmw for the service history. It was serviced at Murray BMW it's whole life. The previous owner was very picky like myself (they had the oil changed annually, around every 4500 miles, trim replaced if it got scratched, coolant and brake fluid done per age and not miles, etc) Normally I do a PPI on any used car i buy, but after speaking to the service advisor at Murray, I felt pretty good about the car, hopefully it will pay off.

The pictures are at Meridian (sp?) it's about a mile north east of I-25 and Lincoln ave, there is a culdesac at a dead end that is kind of my go to place for pictures.

Thanks!

Congrats on the ZHP. My wife used to work around Meridian. Even though I no longer have a ZHP, I'm still part of the family and will have another one day.

Nice black ZHP!

It's kind of funny, the cover is just a basic cover from Wal-Mart. I have used the same type of cover on the past few cars of mine (it started with having a cover on my first car years ago and getting use to the feel, now it feels strange to drive a car with out a cover.) It keeps the steering wheel like new and the Walmart cover happens to have perforated inserts that match the oem leather wheel in the zhp, here is a link to the cover i have, http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bell-Black-Inside-Grip-Steering-Wheel-Cover/14324166

I just noticed that the first four photos in your OP, it looks like you have a pinstripe.....

I am not surprised - It looks good. Just like you, I have always used a cover and feel the need for one for the ZHP too. One of the best covers I have on my Tbird and wife's Elantra I got from Auto Zone and it's nice, thick, well made and feels very comfortable yet rugged - with simple good looks - I can't find that one anymore..perh they stopped making it?

The one you have - I like the little perforated area, and it looks decent and simple, but not cheap. did it fit easily over the leather ZHP wheel?
i want something to protect the ZHP wheel but don't want wheelskins - too $$, too much work to put on, and looks wrinkled unless 100% fit- which they hardly do, from pics that I can see.

I will look into the wheel cover you have soon. Thanks again.

I am still unsure about the pinstripe (thanks previous owner :facepalm .) I think in the end it will be removed, it shouldn't be difficult since it's a sticker and not painted on.

For the price it can't be beat, even if you get tired of it or decide to go the wheelskins route later on for 9 bucks it's not a huge loss. It flows quite well with the interior with out the cheap/tacky look that some of the other covers sold at the same store have :biggrin . It was a little difficult to put on, but nothing horrible (took about 3 min) which is probably a good thing since it doesn't slide or move once installed.

I bought the same one you have, today but didn't want to put it on before I got the wheel completely clean first - it's not dirty but I like to make sure the wheel is free of oil (from skin), etc before I put a cover on it, and felt lazy after coming home from work :)
(also wanted to let the new cover "air" a bit - it has a faint smell of rubber). Will put it on tomorrow and report - perh. with a pic, too.

I totally understand, I did the exact same thing, even though the wheel was not dirty I wanted it to be like new before the cover went on. The smell is one side effect of the cover, mine still has a slight smell to it. Looking forward to the pic.

Sorry for the delay: here are the pics - it was a bitch to put it on - damn! I like it - it adds thickness to the wheel, and like you said blends well.
(I brushed against the left side of the cover, that's why it's lop sided on that one spot on the left - :) didn't notice till pics were taken):

Welcome to the site! Also, WASH, thanks for the pic. How is the rubber feel on the steering wheel cover vs. the leather? John

Washburn

John, it feels less slippery and is a TINY bit grippier than the leather, but i think that comes from the overall wheel being thicker, too...
