Hey everyone,

Some of you may remember me from this thread where we determined that my car is not a TRUE ZHP but rather a rarer M-Sport of some type. I've had the car for a while now and gernerally am happy with it.

I don't post much or spend much time here but its a awesome community that I am happy to be a part of.

At this point I've fixed almost all of the regular things that break and should be set for many more reliable miles. Now I am just working on the little stuff like my sunroof and the lumbar support.

I also have an e46 with the msport package! Option Code is S338 - M Sports Package II. Mine's a sedan though.
338 includes msport bumpers, black headliner and pillars, m steering wheel, same suspension as 767 zhp, cube trim, shadowline. Where the 338 msport package lacks the cluster, cams, thin wall exhaust upgrades, it benefits from m door sills, m dead pedal.

Is the spoiler a factory option?

whoa, did not see that until you pointed it out!!

you won't have seen anything like this in the US - the M Sport was available in most other world markets (including canada - user 'onaquest' above has one, i've owned one), but not the US. we had an interesting time figuring out the history of the OP's car when he first joined - it's a rare car, indeed!

I am in the metro Detroit area. So I think around an hour from Pinckney. I have done a lot of rallying through the Pinckney area... there are quite a few nice dirt roads around there!

To my knowledge, both the wing and the thing on top of the rear window are dealer options. Personally, I don't really like the wing and would much rather have just a little lip but oh well.

Love the Formula Continental! We have a lot of Formula Fords and an occasional Formula Atlantic around here, but I've never seen one of these. I like it! What engine does it run? I dream of running a tube frame chassis vehicle one day as a track car (all I've driven on track thus far are Miatas and my ZHP), but lean towards an enclosed wheel variant like the Radical chassis. Open wheel seems mighty nerve-wracking. Glad to have a fellow track junkie here!

FC is allowed two engines. Either a 2.0 Pinto (Carborated) or the Ztec (ECU, fuel injection and so on). Both engines are tuned to produce nearly the same power (~150HP) with slightly different power curves.

Minimum weight is 1200LB with driver fuel weighed as the cars come off the track.

It runs a custom Hewland Dogbox transmission that is mounted to the engine through a dry sump oil tank.

There is truly nothing else like driving a serious open wheel car. I started in FV and then moved up to FC having driven a number of what I thought were fast street cars (Corvettes and such) When I took the FC around the track the first time my mind was completly blown. Nothing can match how direct and precise these cars are. We can pull somewhere around 3G in a corner and have a top speed of around 150 when geared for it.

All that said I am actually getting out of the hobby. I currently have the car for sale. Honestly as much fun as it started it slowly turned into just another job which I am sure is hard to imagine. But I was at a point where I poored every single dollar I had into that car and racing it. I spent every free moment I had in the garage working on it.

I am looking to take up travel a lot more an downsize my racing career to smaller stuff like Rally-X where I can just show up and run the car for 50 bucks then go home.

Speaking of travel, That is actually a big part of why I purchased the E46 and I will be revealing my huge trip thats coming up this summer real soon.

Thanks for the info! I'm glad to know more about this platform. It sounds awesome and very fast! I've never been on track with open wheeled cars (they're segregated out from our typical HPDE crowd), but have been on track with Radicals, which are probably similar (similar weight, aero, Hyabusa engines). On straights they are nothing special, but in turns it's as if all the other cars are parked!

I actually understand where you're coming from on the hobby side of things. I've had friends in professional and semi-professional racing, and it's exhausting. When a hobby becomes a burden it loses much of the fun. I will say that while tracking my Miata, even though I often envied faster cars, I did love that I could do 6 HPDE weekends a year and my only cost was oil, half a set of tires, and brake pads! I thrashed that car and it cost me next to nothing. Then I sold it when I moved to the BMW for the exact same price I bought it for... so two years of joy at the track (around 12 HPDE events) cost me a set of tires, pads, and a few oil and brake fluid changes. That was truly enjoyable. No stress at all. It was hard to beat.
