Hey all,

Within the next 6 months or so I'll be needing new front pads and rotors and I'm looking for some suggestions on pads and rotors.

I don't track my car so I've pretty much ruled out cross drilled or slotted rotors. They do look sweet but I can't justify the extra money. From the sites I've visited (including Smilez's post (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?519-BrakeYourSelf-BMW-Brakes&highlight=brake+rotor)) I've seen a variety of prices even for the 'plain' rotors. Is there anything that $163 Brembos are going to do for me that $97 Centrics or $75 Meyles won't?

As far as pads go I think I've decided to go with the Akebono Euro Ceramics. From what I've read (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?1370-Akebono-Euro-Ceramic-Brake-Pads) they seem to be comparable in feel to the OEM pads without all the dust. However I'm welcome to suggestions if there's a better low-dust pad out there for a daily driver.

As this will be my first real maintenance DIY project on my car I'd just like to have all the details and parts nailed down well in advance. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. :)

If you do not track, standard plain OEM rotors and ceramic pads are probably your best and more cost effective bet.
Definitely hit up Ray (Brake Yourself) for some good dealz.

Centric blanks and Akebonos should be fine for you!

Hi guys,

If you don't mind could you please provide me with a link to the web where I can purchase akebono pads and centric rotors with the best deal (if possible).

Thank you very much.

Hi Dane, I always have an extra question for you :) Providing that the pads and rotors were never replaced would you replace fronts and rears (just for a piece of mind and performance) or you would replace only the one that needed?

Not that this is sole indicator....but...what's the mileage?

The best answer....is...measure the thickness of your rotor and compare ot to what is stamped on the rotor hat.

If you plan to not do this measurement....just replace them...dependant on mileage, or indication of lip.

About 42K miles, the front rotors are so bad that can't be even shaved.

Thank you, Dane.

Yeah....sounds like a lot of stop and go....or maybe some track use. I would just replace.

If you're going with pads with a different compound that stock, it would probably be best to replace all 4.

Ohhh.....if he's talking pads....yeah....dhu them all. I don't know why...I thought he was specifically asking rotors. Clearly not.

Just an update, message to all Canadians, if u want a good deal and good quality brakes and rotors buy them from Smilez, very good price, very good packaging and I've got them within a week. Two more things, you will have to pay $20 international charge and the same price as brakes and rotors to install them unless ....... you will do it by yourself.
Once again I would like to thank Smilez for a very good products!

If I may ask, what all did you end up buying and how much did you spend? I'm gonna be doing mine here in the near future and would like to know what to expect. Thanks!
