Hi mafiosi,

I am going to put some new wheels on my ZHP and am trying to decide between the VMR 710 and AG M310.

I am looking to get some feedback and opinions on quality from anyone who has run either kind.

Do any of you prefer one over the other?

Thanks for your input!

Good choices. Hard decision. In for the discussion! I know at least one member that got the eBay ones that are similar and is pretty happy with them (not exactly sure this is the same style wheel he got and these may look a bit different than what you want).

I did see this sale but wrong bolt pattern (VW?)

Thanks guys.

I am leaning towards the Avant Gardes, they seem to have a higher load rating due to the low pressure casting.

I am ok with spending a little more for the ones from reputable companies.

Will post pics when mounted.

Any one? any one?

I heard my name... :ninja

Sooo, yeah, I know I'm not around here much, but for those that know me, a text or PM is always a way to get a hold of me... I do still think of you guys and the ZHP often! Anyway, Shawn texted me and asked me to drop in here, so here I am...

Wheels... On my ZHP, I had the Avant Garde M359s (replica E90 M3 competition wheels) and I was extremely pleased with them. As the OP stated, the low pressure casting provides for a slightly stronger wheel, thus the higher load rating. In addition, I had read some reviews of the VMR wheels starting to peel a little a little here and there. I was not interested in that.

The AG wheels I received came extremely well packaged, much like that of a much more expensive wheel. I was happy. The barrels are black, which is nice, helps the wheels look cleaner longer. I had wheels in the Hyper Silver finish, which I was absolutely in LOVE with. A couple of things to note though, the finish is MUCH more metallic than stock BMW silver, and in bright direct sunlight, they can almost look polished... See pics below... But, I loved the finish, so much that I'd love to get my current wheels finished in that same paint.

Looks like you're already leaning toward the AG wheels, I would say that's a great choice. That being said, everyone gets the M310/VMR710... Get something different! Be original!! :D

Lastly, for what its worth... Specs are 18x8.5" ET35, square setup. Tires are 245/40-18 Yokohama S-drive, Front lowered on H&R Sport springs, back stock.

Thanks for the killer write-up Joop.

I appreciate you taking the time to come back around and give input.

Although I like some other wheels, I just really like the look of the M310 and M359, they really match this car and I don't see to many others with them around my parts. Not too many e46's around anymore anyway. I mostly see E9x variants.

Also, the M310 looks like it will be the one, I have a fresh set of Michelin's on and can swap the tires right over to the M310. They are the only option that come staggered.

I also thought about Apex, the wheels look great, but I will not be doing any auto-x and don't see the need to spend and extra $300.

I don't think the benefits of apex wheels are limited to the track. The low weight and high strength yield improvements that can be felt during everyday driving as well.

I had a set of AG M310s for awhile and ultimately upgraded to ARC-8s and never looked back. Plus I think ARC-8s are more "OEM plus" look whereas AG/VMR definitely look aftermarket...
