Gang - WTH is the purpose of this hook? I don't see any use for it and there's nothing in the instructions.

If I recall correctly it's not there for anything except to keep the piston compressed during transportation while it sits in the box. It has no function for the actual shock/strut in the car.

Thanks... If that's the case, since it was actually loose in the box and not on the strut when it arrived, the hook wasn't doing its job. The instructions seem to indicate there is an 'uncompress' procedure by which the shaft is released by pushing it up against something and turning the strut body clockwise. Maybe the hook is there as a belt-and-suspenders failsafe.

I'm going to shoot raceconsultingagency an email to make sure it's not a problem the struts arrived without them attached.

Thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't worry about it. One of my Koni struts from RCA didn't have that hook properly attached on arrival either.
