I always thought this light...

.... would clear after performing a brake job, to include replacing wear sensors (if necessary), after a certain amount of driven miles.

Wear sensors are located on front left, and rear right corners (review)

I performed my brake job about 100 miles ago, and the light hadn't cleared. I dud some research and found the below procedure worked immediately for me, clearing the light.

1. Place the ignition in position 2, car NOT running.
2. Press the "I/O" button on cruise control and hold in for 10 seconds.
3. Release "I/O" button, and press and hold "+" button for 5 seconds, then release.
4. Press accelerator in and hold, and you should see the light clear. Release accelerator.

Many may know this already, but I thought I'd post in case some do not. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180124/65338f25b33421b5ae8d0b9782fbe854.jpg

Thanks boss, I didn't know that and last time I did my brakes, I had not tripped the sensors so I reused them. I see you pushed your pads to the limit.

I thought you just turned the key to position 2 and waited a ~10 seconds for it to clear. Will try this method on the '00 328i.
Thanks!

Boss, this light resets itself after a few seconds of leaving the key in position 2.

Source: I've managed to snag the front sensor wire more than once :facepalm and have had to replace them.

Any E46 I've ever done I just leave the key on acc position 2 for 30 seconds, it's a LOOONG time to sit there and wait.

Yeah... I did not wait 30 seconds. I waited about 10, and when nothing happened, I pressed the buttons as instructed above. They may have done nothing and 30 seconds may have elapsed at that point. Wish there was a TIS for this. Most likely you guys are correct in only needing to leave in position 2, for Saud amount if time (30 seconds possibly or longer)

Hmmm, mine cleared after replacing rear brakes and sensor, did not do anything special that I recall.
