View Full Version : APEX ARC-8 Fitment Thread
BMWCurves

Hello all!
APEX ARC-8 wheels have become very popular around here, with many members of the Mafia family having taken the plunge. As a result, I think it might be useful to have a thread on different members' APEX ARC-8 fitments and their experience. I have created a spreadsheet below that I can edit (or if anyone knows how to embed a Google Spreadsheet, I'm all ears), and will link to each user's post as well. So here is what I propose each member with ARC-8s does in a post:
Submit their info i.e. wheel size, tire size, camber, rolled fenders yes/no, rubbing yes/no, etc
Submit a picture of the wheels on their car, if available.
Sound simple? Good. This way, other members who are considering getting a set of ARC-8s or changing to a different size can use this thread as a quick resource. Also, very much open to suggestions to make this whole thread more useful to other people.

Even though I have already submitted it to the spreadsheet, here are my ARC-8 info with pictures:
17x8.5" ET40 square wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact DW tires on all four corners. I have factory springs so the ride height is stock, although I do have Z4m front control arm bushings (FCABs) that increase castor a few degrees. AFAIK my alignment hasn't changed although that is 2ish years old, but the front camber (R/L) is -0.97/-0.92 degrees and rear camber (R/L) is -2.06/-2.07. I have not rolled the fenders and I do not have rubbing.
General impression/notes: I love this wheel set up. It improved the handling and grip an appreciable amount due to the reduced unsprung weight. The only things I don't like about it is the aesthetics; I wish they were larger diameter and had more concavity, but those downsides were outweighed by the current setup's performance, no need for rolling fenders, and money saved thanks to cheaper tire size.

that's the setup i will likely move to - 9's in the rear. i bet you won't rub with those tires, wes - the PSS you ran before are a bit chubbier than the 500s.
my setup:
18x8.5 ET38 square, hyper silver
3mm spacer in the rear
245/35/18 michelin PSS (tread width is 9.1" - these suckers are wide for a 245)
stock ride height - ZHP coupe springs, koni yellows up front, bilstein PSS9 dampers in the rear - both set fairly stiff
camber: -1.0F, -1.6R
no fender rolling
no rubbing without 3mm spacer in rear - slight rubbing in the rear under large compressions with passengers in the rear

Things to note:
I also keep a full size spare in the same wheel/tire specs in the trunk wheel well with no modifications.
I originally wanted 9s with et30 all around for the concavity but I would have had to deal with other issues:
-I just didn't feel like dealing with having to add in the negative camber (as i was told by APEX)
-I possibly would have had to roll my fenders.
-I wanted to use the 235s, rather than using 255s and deal with increased tram lining.
-I did not want to use 235s on 9s because i was afraid when stretched the ride would not have been as smooth.
-A 9 inch spare would not fit in the spare wheel well.

looking awesome, joey. two OGs in this thread!
re: your comment about the 9s... i think you're meaning 9.5? the 9" wheel has the same face profile as the 8.5" wheel does, and fits without fender modification or crazy camber settings.
the 9.5" wheels are a whole other ball o' wax.

Ahhh I forgot to specify, the 9 inchers that I was looking at were the et30s that had the profile 3 face. the et42s have the profile 1 face. I was looking at the 30s specifically because they came in that matte bronze finish. TBH I was hearing mixed things. some were telling me I wouldn't have to do a thing, others were saying I'd need add in the neg camber and modify the fenders. Although I believe that those modifications would be dependent largely on the choice of tires due to shape of the shoulder.

oh right, the ET30 ones! totally forgot about those.
yes, tires make a big difference... as well as camber settings, ride height, fender modifications. but 18x9 ET30 is still a very aggressive fitment, i believe more aggressive than 18x9.5 ET35, given the same tire size.

I think you should add whether it's a sedan or coupe since coupes seem to have more room for lower numbered offsets

Huh, I didn't think APEX made an ARC-8 in 17x8.5" with an ET42 offset. I thought only ET20 and ET40.
Also, spacers? Fender rolling? Camber?

Nice, this list would be useful. These were my settings before I did M3 front fenders. I added my actual ride height measured from the top of the arch of the fender to the middle of the center cap. I wouldn't have rubbed so much, if I just raised my car up .5" lol

lol, funny how sedan folk tend to be pretty conservative. Anyone run 18x9 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear? I wonder how much modification would be required with stock suspension and height.

you should totally not swap your ZHP stuff into a Touring... you've got a sweet, low-mileage ZHP.
you should buy a Touring and a donor and do the swap. then sell your coupe. :)

you should totally not swap your ZHP stuff into a Touring... you've got a sweet, low-mileage ZHP.
you should buy a Touring and a donor and do the swap. then sell your coupe. :)
Thank you for being a voice of reason. Hacking up that low-mileage beauty would be absolutely criminal.

Well that car was given a new lease on life... from what I understand, the rear end was completely hosed from an accident.
Or am I thinking of the orange one? I can't remember. lol

well, if i had a coupe that got rear-ended... i'd probably bypass the ute build and just swap stuff straight into another Touring. ;)
utes ARE cool, though... mate.

Haha I know, my guilt would be through the roof if I actually got to the point where I could gut my baby for a transplant.
Still, I dream of a Mystic Blue, Alpine White, Oxford Green, etc with a ZHP heart (with possible FI) and M-Tech aero kit.

...and tossing in some friends and all of their camping gear for the weekend? or an oven? dishwasher? heck yeah.
and oh yeah, alpine white! forgot about that.

I mean, I can fit an oven in the coupe. It just has the word “toaster” in front of it.

This thread was very helpful in my purchase decision, so I'll add another data point. I was part of the 2020 group buy, but only got around to installing these fairly recently:
Front: 18x8.5 ET38, stock camber & springs, no spacers
Rear: 18x9 ET42, stock camber & springs, no spacers
Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 225/40 & 255/35
I went with Anthracite w/ matching valve stems, which is a shade darker than I expected but still looks very sharp on my Mystic Blue sedan. My setup is nearly stock and I have no rubbing or other complaints.

Consequently, I have a set of stock 135s that are looking for a new home...

Just seeing this thread. We run a lot of wide(r) wheels on E46 chassis and I have never had a 9" wheel rub that has an offset of et42-45. For street/track cars this is our go-to setup 17x9 or 18x9 et42 with 255 tires, never had an issue even with stock alignment specs.
18x9 et45 wtih 255/35/18 tires on SSRs, lowered.

Hey Pizza, I know it's been a minute since this post, but I was wondering if you remembered any deets about the suspension you were running? This is pretty much the exact fitment/ride height I'm looking for, so any little details help lol.
Cheers!

Cheers!Hey man this was on stock ZHP springs and Koni FSD (now called Special Active) shocks. It rode very well and handled long sweepers with ease, but wasn't great for really quick transitions like you have in autocross.
