Hello everyone,

I just attempted to install a 9" android head unit from Eonon (GA9150KW (https://www.eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/Vehicle-Specific-GPS/BMW-E46-Android-Android-8-1-Car-Radio-GPS-Navigation-System-7-Inch-1-Din-Stereo.html?Catype=1)), I got it wired up and turned it on for a test and no audio! So looking online I found that the Harmon Kardon amp might be my problem.. Apparently it needs a 12 volt signal to prompt it to power on. I have seen a few threads that mention this but don't go into great detail. One said to splice a 12 volt power source and connecting it to the blue and White wire.... Anyone have more experience with this? I'm am not sure what wire would be the amp signal. Thanks!

I don't have specific knowledge of how the HK amp works, but with normal aftermarket amps there is a "turn-on wire" that is usually tapped from the radio's ACC power line.

On the schematic I see a BLU/WHT wire that connects from the amp to the front left midrange...but they don't list wire functions in here.

Post a pic of the wires coming out of the back of the headunit. I know what you need to connect, but it's been so long that I need to see it to jog my memory and point it out.

Guess its not that blue and white wire then lol(they may have meant on the supplied harness adapter?), but where did you find the schematics? They could be useful for this.. Thank you!

Hey ZHPizza, I will post some pics below showing how it is currently hooked up. Thanks so much for your help BTW! Also in the second pic I circled a plug that I didn't plug in anywhere. The how to videos I watched on youtube as a tutorial don't mention this small plug below the main one nor did the instructions with the new unit.(see red circle pic #2)

Well that blue wire that is connected is the one that I was going to be looking for. The unused plug on the connector is normal though. No worries there. Looks like you don't have the HK system? The car didn't come with navigation, right?

I thought all ZHPs came with HK, no?

I thought all ZHPs came with HK, no?I dunno. I don't see the little spatialization speaker button. Maybe they didn't put it in the drop tops?

The Bentley manual has a few wiring diagrams. I can grab some pics if needed, but I think these guys are already on top of it.

Hey guys thanks for all the feedback! Got an update on the 9" eonon droid head unit, I was emailing back a forth with eonon's support team, they were actually fairly helpful.. They asked for pictures of the front and back of my wiring harness showing the pins and cables and anyways they sent me this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8xjeth_xaU), basically there is a option buried in the setting to turn on the external amp!........... Wish that little tidbit was in the instructions because I put my car back to stock and was ready to send the head unit back. So I guess I will reinstall it and will give an update this weekend. If it works out maybe I will do a review on it.

I don't know what the specialization speaker button is(so must not have it), but it does say HK on the tweeters in the front, and have the stock sub in the ski pass through area.. what does the button do?

A VIN decode should say whether you have a HK or not. Option 674 I believe. I asked the same questions about that button in the vert here:

Yeah, you've got HK. I think they just didn't put the spatialization feature in verts.

Yeah guess not, the vert top control buttons are there instead, but still enough room for another button so.. WTF BMW? lol, I want spatialization!

Update here for the Eonon 9” Android head unit (GA9150KW (http://https://www.eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/Vehicle-Specific-GPS/BMW-E46-Android-Android-8-1-Car-Radio-GPS-Navigation-System-7-Inch-1-Din-Stereo.html?Catype=1)) this problem is solved and is very easy fix, no splicing wires. All you have to do is go to: settings>car infotainment>sound>then click on 5 dots icon>toggle ‘examp’, and you're done. Link for video instructions HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8xjeth_xaU) and I do plan on posting a detailed review soon including some tips on installation as its a bit different than other 7" android head units.

How are you liking the unit?

How are you liking the unit?

The unit has pros and cons like anything but overall it’s a great head unit that adds a ton of functionality to the car. Really the only negative is it does take a bit longer to boot up than a typical head unit, maybe 15 to 20 seconds. The sound quality is better than the stock business CD and it connects with my IPhone Bluetooth every time without issue. I also think it looks the part, it makes the interior feel more modern while still looking fairly stock.

I think I may purchase a head unit today. Was looking at the eonon units and the newest is the 9350 but it only has 2gb Ram instead of 4 like the old unit. Anyone think I should just save money on an older unit with more Ram or is the new 9.0 android that much better?

Sent from my SM-G930V using TapatalkSearch around for discussions on the "px4 Android headunits." I got the 4gb 8.0 unit a year or so ago and it's ok, but buggy like the earlier versions. I think I remember people talking about the new processor in the px4 or maybe the new Android versions being more efficient so you only needed the 2gb of ram.

So I received my unit and currently installing it but I'm not sure where to splice the blue/white "Amp-power" wire.. My wiring harness seems to be slightly different than many of the threads showing the install. Any help would be greatly appreciated https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190526/5abe75a7190e7ad4b7d33daf841a59c4.jpg

Also.. Is this cable on all our cars? I don't recognize this in the videos I've watched either. It was hooked into a BMW ipod adapter but it can't be removed because it's wiring directly into the large wiring harness https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190526/11200f4a203b9e74c635c3981a37b55b.jpg

So after doing some investigating, somehow one of the fuses was already triggered? Fortunately the unit came with 2 wiring harnesses and so I just swapped over the fuse from the other harness. [emoji106]

I don’t remember what I did with the blue wire - but definitely didn’t ground it (no wires were grounded, all plug and play) and I didn’t have the iPod connector either

Sorry couldn’t be much help
