225/45ZR17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
255/40ZR17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110

Now
255/40ZR-17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 XL for rear, 10 months old

So I been using these same tires for the last 10+ years.
This is the first time, from the first few months until now the rears are slipping on many turns that I know from before they held oh so well.

This is a review of the evo2, seems nothing there to say this is worse than the evo?

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Ventus+V12+evo2&partnum=54YR7K120XL

So did I just get a bad QC dud this time? No surprise considering these are some of the cheapest "performance" tires out there... but then again the original evo I had no problem with for the price, the lateral G were to my satisfaction, unlike these, I almost feel unsafe.

Pressure... I have tried these at 28lbs to 42 lbs... they all feel the same pretty much as far as traction. I still think its the rears only, the evo2.

Any experience of the like? Should literally try adjusting the pressure like 3lbs at at time down from 42 to like 31?

Thanks

I used to have Hankook tires (Ventus Noble 2, I think) on my DD, but I developed bubbles in the sidewalk of two separate tires—one at its half-life and one near-new. Never again. Too bad, because they handled pretty well.

How much thread life is left on them?

I liked them for the steering feel but was not impressed with the overall grip. Cheaper tires do have their negatives.

I only had them for about 9 months now, and although I drive hard, I dont drive often at all so they have plenty.

Just curious as to why the evo2 are SO much worse... its not just about being cheap or else the evo's woulda sucked also and they were very satisfactory to me for a "cheap" tire. These evo2 are just like plastic.

I guess I'll just drift with these a bit when its safe and figure they are practice tires and will just have to tone it down in the wet and normal driving, wear them out and upgrade.

You guys know best alternatives at "similar" price points? I pay about $110-$130 per tire for these... someone told me these, I think that's what I 'll do next:

I was sort of forced into buying some Toyo Proxes 4 Plus’s (245/40R17) instead of my desired Michelin’s (due to available stock at the store and being in a hurry), and they’ve been great—excellent handling, pretty quiet, and the tread’s holding up extremely well after 20k miles.

I love the Firehawk Indy 500's. Great grip for street use and they are CHEAP!

One thing I did notice is that they're super cheap in the 255/35-18 size. No idea why, but when I checked the pricing for sizes around it, they were a lot more. lol

Curious what you end up spending on your sizing.

Ya I dunno much about the tire business but hey, I won't be complaining... I'm just shocked there are other tires with decent quality at this price point, awesome
