ICV clean

Alright so I thought I remember seeing a DIY or someone explaining how to clean your idle control valve if anyone knows that can redirect me I search here didn't find it or maybe I over looked it

Speaking of #10.....is it necessary, or a good idea, to replace the grommet #10 for the ICV when reinstalling it?

It's a good idea to replace ANY kind of rubber or metal washer/part when removing and reinstalling a component, regardless of the age.

Just seems odd though that I've never heard anyone mention it before when talking about cleaning it. And at $15 I'd assume it's not your run of the mill rubber grommet.

If the grommet is still pliable and not cracked, I am sure its fine.

I subconsciously do this with everything.

The reason its not spoken of (I would assume) is because it causes us very little to no problems on E46.

Thanks guys, I'd debated ordering one just to have on hand but I already have some parts that I've "had on hand" for over a year now.:biggrin

Bringing this back to life. I think I need to do the ICV clean.

Do you guys recommend I buy any type of carburetor cleaner or is there something special I should purchase?

My symptoms are occasional but in neutral coming to a stop, RMP dip into the 550s and then back to 700.

Just normal carb cleaner. Spray it and hold it in your hand like a motorcycle throttle.... Then... Throttle it back and forth.

Finally got to doing it. I throttled it back and forth and Q-tiped the sucker.
