It's not a dealer. It's the same guy I posted about in the sticky thread at the top of the classifieds - "The Buyer's Corner" thread.

He's a nice guy. Looks to be an okay car - just watch out for the bent rim and the control arm bushings.

I thought about making him an offer, but I'd really like to get a different color than black.

Same here. No more black cars for me. Beautiful when clean, but hard to keep that way (IMHO).

I had a black BMW four years ago. No more black cars for me. Looks great when it's clean. Only stays looking clean if you don't drive it. :biggrin

If it's Sapphire Black, which is metallic, that problem is greatly reduced.

I avoid regular glossy black paint (Jet Black in E46 world) but my ZHP is Sapphire and it stays looking clean. Not quite like silver or white do but it's nowhere near as frustrating as Jet.

Good point, Mark. I had jet black.

I might be interested in this car if my current deal falls through. (hopefully it won't)

Anyone get any more info on the car?

I emailed the seller asking for high res photos and got this in response:

Sorry, no. I usually get requests like this from dealers. If you are not a dealer, you should just come look at it.

Not exactly the best response... and since I'm 3000 miles away, I can't just "come look at it". He also didn't give his name or answer any of my questions.

Wow that was a rude response. I'm only a few hours away but I'm not crazy about dealing with someone who responds to interested buyers like that...

Thanks for the response

Typical seller.

When I was looking for a ZHP last summer, I wrote this (on another forum):

I'm in the market for an E46 (330 or higher). Cash in hand. I'd love to buy a car from an enthusiast. That's why I have bookmarked this forum. Alas, I come here each day and often leave disappointed (with a few exceptions).

So many threads leave a lot to be desired.

How many miles are on the car? Price? What's the VIN? Where are the pictures? And if there are pictures, why are they so blurry? Any paint work? What mods have you done (if any)? How many owners?

So many sellers make it difficult on themselves. I figure that if you can't even post basic information, maybe you're hiding something. Indeed, if someone puts a bare-bones ad up, and says that I should contact them for more information, I ignore the thread and move on.

I suspect there are some nice cars being sold here on this forum. Unfortunately, a lot of sellers just don't seem willing to put in the necessary work to get the car sold.

The easier the seller makes it on me (you'd think that sellers would be striving for this), the better chance there is of selling me a car.

Good luck to all.

And then there's craigslist, from which the ad in question comes. The dregs of vehicular classified advertising. But if you can stand all the scam attempts, horribly written ads, lack of info, dealers advertising as private party, etc., it's possible to find the occasional gem. I found mine on craigs. And to quote a certain family guy in Rhode Island, it's freakin' sweet.

Yep. A lot of work to find the right one. For the impatient, the process can grind you down.
