So I bought a short throw shifter (BMW Performance) and want to get installed. I was looking through other forums and the install is simple enough.

Problem is I dont have tools to DIY.........

If anyone can do it I am willing to pay or help out greatly appreciated....

Bump for anyone in San Diego that can help.... (for a second there I thought you meant South Dakota).

There are a few of us in your area...

Your car would be half way apart by now...if you lived in VA.

If I were in your area, I'd be happy to. The whole operation can pretty much be done with a good set of screwdrivers. My biggest problem was the clip that holds the front of the carrier to the transmission. That thing was a pain.

Sent using Tapatalk on my rooted Droid. Wut?

HAHAHA I know I have trying to stay away from modding and working on the cars......

I dont wanna be in the garage all the time again and have the girl mad at me. It is bad enough when I wash and wax both the cars. I also do our bikes since we ride them to the beach

Come on- girls always get mad at us. At least this way you retain some control over why she's angry. :biggrin

Droid X. Tapatalk. Use it.

Youre right about that.

She rolls the ZHP as a Daily....

I use the excuse to wash it or take it to the shop which works well too.

I can probably get you lift and tool rental if you want to DIY or have it put in. Let me check when the lift is available.

...sent you a PM.

Wanted to say thanks to James for the help. Sorry no pics on the DIY BMW performance shift kit.

Thank you once again. I don't think I would have been able to do it without you. Finally drove it this morning and best upgrade I have made in awhile

Here is the final product. I also installed ebrake BMW Performance. It looks great and the throws are really noticeable. I would reccomend this upgrade to anyone.

Thanks again James

Looks good!

What shift knob is on there? Is it weighted similarly to the ZHP knob? Any difference in feel?

This Genuine BMW manual shift knob fits all 1982 and on BMWs. It "snaps" onto your shifter level just as your stock shift knob does, and can be installed in a matter of seconds. This knob is much shorter and smaller than the "standard" knobs, and is weighted for better shifter feel. Available with your choice of either 5 speed or 6 speed shift pattern (select your option below).

This knob is right out of the BMW Performance catalog, and features supple black alcantara suede (with great grip!) and a weighted body. This knob was specifically designed and marketed for the E82 / E88 1 Series and the E90/E92 3 Series, BUT it also fits all manual transmission BMWs from 1982 through present. This means this great looking and great feeling shifter knob can be used on almost every BMW (except 1981 and earlier).

Thank you that is the goal of the car upgrade but keep as clean as possible.

Wait till the ZHP gets its upgrade.
