View Full Version : How many miles do you get from a set of tires?

I just thought about this because I need new tires. I 'think' I had brand new tires when I got the car last July @99k. Now have almost 109k and they need to be replaced. Mid-Outside tread is absolutely fine....camber wear on inside of fronts and a little in the rear with other wear in the middle of the tires (Pirelli PZero)

Note: I had blizzak winters on for 1-2k miles during that too..

I'm looking into the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that have a 30k warranty for square set-ups and a 15k mile warranty for staggered set-up's. (see my previous thread in the classifieds if you're nearby and like to help me become a square set up)

How long do your tires last?

I'm curious as well. First car with a staggered set-up. I've gotten a little over 7K on Pirelli P Zero's and they seem to be wearing decently.

I'm on my third set of p-zero's. I usually get about 25-30k on the rears, and slightly more on the fronts.

My 335 had Pilot Sport PS2 tires. Lasted about 8,000 miles. Treadwear rating of 220.

My ZHP has Falken FK-452 tires. I suspect they'll last closer to 20,000 miles. Treadwear rating of 300.

I drove the 335 a lot more aggressively than the ZHP.

typical seems to be anywhere as low as 10k and as high as 30k......

variations based upon driving style, tires, mods, etc......

These figures are absolutely abysmal...
I have Pirelli PZero Nero All-Seasons on my car now. They were pretty much brand new when I bought the car with 79k on it. I now have almost 102k and the portions of the tire that weren't affected by my incorrect alignment have good wear, and will probably go for another 10-15k before requiring replacement, which would total approximately 30-40k of usage.

NOBODY should be getting 8k out of a set of tires unless you're doing burnouts! Sorry Mark, lighten up the driving style there, buddy... lol

Treadwear
Treadwear grades are an indication of a tyre's wear rate. The higher the treadwear number, the longer it takes for the tread to wear down.

A ‘standard' control tyre is assigned a grade of 100. The treadwear rate of all test tyres is compared to the ‘standard' tyre. For example, a tyre grade of 200 should wear twice as long as the control tyre. Treadwear grades are tested under controlled conditions using four vehicles fitted with test tyres that run in convoy. The vehicles repeatedly run a specified 640 kilometre road course for a total of 11,520 kilometres. Tread depths are measured every 1,280 kilometres and the measurements for each vehicle are averaged to give a projected wear-out life.

Nearly 400 HP and more than 420 ft. lbs. of torque. Tough to not wear tires out quickly, I guess.

Mine typically last <30k miles.

That goes for Khumo ECSTA, Hankook Ventus V12, V4.

I am on a set of Yokohama AVIDEnvigor's right now with a UTGQ of 520....so they should wear well.

Whatever you decide....I recommend you get them from Tirerack, and use the affiliate link.

I don't get it. Do you guys absolutely baby your cars? I in no way drive my car 'rough'...but i do partake in semi-spiritual driving. I'm not one of those people you see flying around. I just don't know how i'm getting such poor wear/you guys are getting good wear. Especially the Pirelli guys.

Marcus, I'm getting worse mileage out of mine than you did on your aggressively driven 335 :P

The michelin super sports have a treadwear rating of 300 iirc, hopefully that will help me out.

Actually..funny story. (since i work at the dealer) I can get an alignment for $69.95. So I did that and one of the mechanics called me over when he pulled it in and told me that my control arm bushings were shot and he'd rather do that for me instead of an alignment. Then after I do rotors/pads he'll align it for me. Then he told me that I needed tires. Apparently the insides are dry rotted (date on tires says '08. That baffles me because tires were supposedly new when I got the car. They even had the paint line things on them still. I had no problem believing that they were brand new). So he changed my CAB's for me there and I'll get an alignment after I do my other work on it.

So, to actually answer your question. I don't know; I thought it was...but I thought it might not be because of my wear. I hoped to save my tires a little with an alignment but I guess its too late.

Yeah. Sounds as though you expected a lot better wear, so I am thinking you might have been misaligned, which wore your tires prematurely.

Probably lol. Silly me. I'll get new tires and such and get an alignment and drive a little easier i'll be sure to post my progress.

Spending $1,000 on tires and $400+ on rotors & then another $200+ on miscellaneous stuff is really damning for a 19 y/o that gets paid $8 an hour haha. Plus car payments. Work work work work!

Whenever u buy new tires check the date they were manufactured. Look for the DOT number. The last four should be a number. Let's say 4610. That would mean that the tire was manufactured in week 46 of the year 2010. Even if the tires are new they could be a couple of years old because they were sitting somewhere for a while. Which would explain why the tires are dry rotted. They get really hard if they sit for a couple of years in a warehouse, then they don't last.

I track my car at least 3 times a year, plus "take" every corner I see clear of traffic at elevated speeds, and am STILL getting good wear even after 20k+ on the set. If my alignment wasn't bad, my tires wouldn't need replacing whatsoever. It's all your driving style; EASY on the clutch when starting from a stop, no wheel spinning; this will ensure faster tire wear!

BFG g-Sport (31,000) UTGQ 340 - aligned
Yoko AVID ENVigor (12,000 so far) 560 - aligned

Mileage are for rears. All could have gone a little farther, I guess.

Michelin Pilot sport 2 all season Plus Tires
265-35-18 Rears---Almost exactly 20,000 miles
235-40-18 Fronts--30,000 Miles

I just went to Continental DWS (all season as well) They appear to be wearing about the same pace. I would recommend either tire for a great mix of performance and ability to drive in the snow. Both are quiet, good grip, and survived pretty harsh winters for Western NC.
