View Full Version : Detailing Clinic, San Diego -- Event I. August 6, 2011

I have a friend, James Eberhardt, who is willing to teach a group of us how to detail our cars.

James has won the San Diego BMW CCA clean car contest five different times (three straight times in the clean car category; once in the super clean category; and he won the master's category once). He's no longer allowed to enter the contest. In other words, they're sick of him winning all the time. He's now a judge only.

Here's the deal: he is willing to give me the hook up if I can get 5 people together for the class. He will only charge $20 per person (it's normally double that). That's a fricken steal. The class should last about four hours. (This hookup should remind you of the deal I worked out with Casey, when he was offering ZHP Mafia a sweetheart deal for pictures.)

The clinic will be very hands on. He will not detail our cars at the clinic. Instead, he will have us work on a car (one of our own) and he will give instruction throughout. He says it's that old proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Given how many Mafia people we have in Southern California, I imagine we will not have a difficult time filling this class.

We need a minimum of five people -- up to a maximum of ten people.

The clinic is Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10 AM. It is in San Diego. James will hold the clinic at his house.

This clinic is open to anyone. Orange County/LA County guys can come down here, too.

Sign ups begin now. As soon as we reach 10 people, that's it.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I can do this, but not 100% yet. Do we need to provide our own detailing supplies / tools? Should our cars be clean before showing up?

EDIT: upon rereading the first post, it sounds like we're getting a single volunteer car for the ten of us to work on simultaneously... is that right?

Marcus-SanDiego
07-07-2011, 09:12 AM
No detailing supplies needed.

It's not necessary to come with a clean car. But I do not believe that everyone will be getting their car detailed that day. Instead, there will be a single donor car that gets all of the attention, so that the instructor can focus on one job.

Awesome deal Marcus! Would definately do this if I was on the left coast.

But it'll all be good - the "right" coast will be at Bimmerfest East. :biggrin

Marcus-SanDiego

Definitely a good deal. I'm hoping the west coast guys will take advantage of my resources. I'm always networking on the left coast.

Great deal for those who want to learn this stuff.

Bump, let's get these slots filled up.

Marcus-SanDiego
07-14-2011, 06:47 AM
Yep. If, on August 1, this list is not 80% full, I will put James on notice that the clinic may not happen. I'll tell him to make plans for his Saturday if something comes up.

This is a great deal for anyone looking to learn this stuff.

Changed my mind on this one.

If this clinic is not full on July 31, the event will be canceled. I think this is a worthwhile clinic for $20 (and about 4 hours of instruction).

So, if ten people have not signed up as of July 31 (end of day), this will be rescheduled for a time down the road when I get enough interest in it.

This clinic is open to anyone. Orange County/LA County guys can come down here, too.

I'm in... Can't guarantee I'll be there, but I'll put down the $20 either way.

James, I have added you to the list.

We have 12 days to pick up another 5 people.

I'll be joining. I'd be glad if mine becomes one of those donor car. ^^

Be sure to give me your first name. I will add you to the list.

Here is my full name: Dongpyo Lee. I never got to have "American" name, where there are plenty of foreign borns in my field. I sometimes go by Lee when people have hard time pronouncing my first name. Either way, it's fine.

Still five slots left. They need to be filled by July 31.

So many people for creviers but no one wants to learn how to make their cars look like that, come on guys

Marcus-SanDiego
07-20-2011, 06:31 PM
I am kind of surprised, too. Thought this would sell out quickly.

Marcus-SanDiego
07-22-2011, 07:09 AM
Nine days to find five more people. At this rate, I don't see this clinic happening. We'll see.

07-22-2011, 11:00 AM
Wow. Also surprised.

Considering the deal, guys should be crawling out of the woodwork just to see if they can learn tricks and tips from the Clean Car champ.

Marcus-SanDiego

What can I say? People may not be as interested as I thought they'd be. No worries.

I'd be interested but playing in a Beach Tennis tourney that weekend.

Marcus-SanDiego

Maybe in the future, if we get enough interest, we can give it a go again.

Eight days to find five people. The search continues.... :biggrin

Marcus-SanDiego
07-25-2011, 04:52 AM
So, this will likely get canceled (because I don't see five people signing up in the next six days). Really too bad. Good opportunity to learn some detailing skills.

I've already put my guy on notice.

Marcus-SanDiego
07-25-2011, 11:54 AM
Well, good news. I've arranged to get the same deal with just five people. So, this clinic is on!

Great seeing the gang today. I now feel emboldened to give this a try on my own.

For those who attended today: our next clinic will entail us applying our knowledge on a car.

If you attended today's clinic, I'll work on getting a discounted rate for our next visit.
