View Full Version : Coding ... what coding choices do you like best ? (DRLs, auto-lock, etc)

I've recently added an OEM alarm and will be getting the car coded so that it works. I also plan to have the auto door lock feature disabled. I won't be using a dealer and understand that this should open up the choices considerably.
What features do you like best ? Which features would you like to add that you don't currently have ?

Attached is a pdf of "official" programming options. I haven't yet found a comprehensive list that includes "Euro" choices. If anyone knows where to find such a list please share it.

I have DRL delete, one click on the key to unlock all doors and no automatic locking when you take off....figure less wear and tear on the lock system, especially after dealing with E34s and E36s with lock issues

I love automatic lock. I love comfort opening with my fob, as well as comfort closing.

I like that I was able to program my car to do only the front windows and sunroof when using comfort opening/closing. Screw those useless vent windows. :biggrin

I always crack my rear windows when I put the fronts down. I get too much pressure difference other wise. I feel like that's the coupes rear windows only function while in motion.

Please confirm or deny.

I have fogs on with high beams, DRL's off, windows up with remote, windows only open with remote, front corner marker delete, also had my homing lights timer extended.

This might be a cool place to put in the sheet/data for all coding options. Maybe in the initial post?

Are you able to program the rear windows in the coupes to auto close rather than having to hold the button the whole time?

Is there a "hold lock button down and it closes all the windows"? I see a "hold unlock button down and it opens all windows" in the pdf...

Yes, you can program the rear windows in the coupes to auto close. However, the switches themselves must be physically modified as well.

And yes, there is a "hold lock button down and it closes all the windows" feature. It's called comfort close. KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG or something like that. It is not activated from the factory (in the USA) due to legal issues, from what I've heard. The dealer will not enable it, either.

Deny. This coupe is the greatest car I've ever owned for window-down driving.

Highway+ speeds present no pressure issues at all with the vent windows closed.

I've just returned from having some programming done. In addition to activating the alarm I recently installed and disabling the automatic lock at 7-mph these "unofficial" choices are available; dealers will not do all of these:
Remote windows up
Corner light delete
One touch rear window close (coupes)
Fog lights stay on with the high beams
Euro Hazard lights (Double blink)
Alarm light (Clown nose) activation / blinking corner lights on lock and unlock
I was able to set up with Shane (BMW-Knight over at E46F); just $60.

What exactly is the "double blink" of the European-style hazards?

One of the one's I liked the most was.

start the car without having the clutch pressed in and no seatbelt warning when driving along with DRL's off oh and setting my A/C readout to display HIGH and LOW when hitting the max values for temp control.

The code features that are being discussed in this thread have nothing to do with your DME.
These are mostly LSZ and GM5 features.

Oh...well then I'll just get a new one. I totally missed the LSZ Connection!!

Ahh...My original line of thinking was that cars equipped with the MS42 DME would have an outdated LSZ...what's the status for the early MS43 equipped LSZs?

You can get a lsz and gm5 module out of a facelifted cars to make it work.

The hazards blink twice, short pause, and then repeat. Imagine it in musical terms; you have a quarter note that plays every time the hazards blink. With the euro hazards, you have two eighth notes that play instead of the quarter note. So, instead of [blink pause blink pause], you get [blink-blink pause blink-blink pause] where the two blinks take the same amount of time as the regular blink.

I took my car to a indy to have my list of stuff set up (cobbled from various sources), and I wound up getting about half of what I wanted for my $60. I was a little disappointed.

What do codes like this 'KOMFORTOEFFNEN_FB_O_FH_HI', etc., mean? The indy I was at had a touchscreen device with some of the options I wanted in plain english, and access to none of the euro options. They had no idea what my carefully researched list of incomprehensible German-sounding codes meant.

Do people have their own device to plug into their cars to do this stuff?

The indy probably used SSS/Progmann-- it will only let you code options according to your cars VO/ZCS and region.

For example if you changed your cars region through VO, or ZCS the dealer and most indy's will be able to access euro options through progmann as well as updating your DME, EGS, and SMG modules to european specs. Although you have to be careful when changing regions with MS45.1 fitted cars never HAVE anyone try to update the DME, EGS, or SMG modules by means of VO or region since it will most likely mess it up since it will attempt to flash MS43 code. (EURO cars were never fitted with MS45's)

Where as NCSexpert lets you code whatever possible on the car; regardless of VO or ZCS

I've attached an excerpt out of a GM5.C05 module. There are many ways of achieving what you want done but certain features will have to be coded manually.

If you want an all euro code then you would add the feature to your VO and recode the entire car through NCSexpert or Modify your GM/SA strings using ZCS decoder tools and zeko-ZCS as a reference.

VO is much easier to work with then ZCS.

Dane--Marcus,

Is there a way to create expandable quotes?

What do you mean by expandable?

Something that doesn't take up a bajillion lines of text, I would assume. Something that you can 'Click to see more' type deal.

This coding sub forum has really sparked my interest as a way to change my car without spending much $$. So our cars came with dme45.1? What's the difference between them?

I'm with you on this one. I want the city lights. I've been meaning to order the parts to get the city lights going. Then setup the LCM to pin 44/45 and code city lights on. :)

Any reason to go with city lights vs. DRLs? Seems a little redundant.

City lights would replace the use of the turn signals as parking lights.

I can't really find any better pics but thats what it would be. A full Euro light conversion. :)

So if I already have the corner delete, city lights are the way to go?

I personally just didn't like when the car is off and you turn on your parking lights, the front end was completely dark.

I am not sure if I like the auto lock on the doors. Wifes car has it and it is somewhat annoying at times.

Note my high beam bowls are yellow so city lights in an unpaired bowl will look more whitish yellow than full yellow like mine.

Do you have pics without fogs on? I've been meaning to do this mod. I have the list of parts and waiting till I have time to get out the dremel and make the hole/notch :(

The only other pics I have are taken with my phone that had a shitty camera. I'll take updated pics with my iPhone when my car is off the lift. Much better camera. Lol

Quick noob question: Since derbo mentioned that city lights replace the turn signals as parking lights, does this mean that city lights are powered on/off through the LCM? As in the off position, no lights are on; position 1 on the lcm would be city lights only; and position 2 would be headlights & city lights?

Yes. They'll also replace the turn singals for that parallel parking feature (turn stick left or right to illuminate left or right side of the car while parked). I believe they can also be set to function as DRLs. I had angel eyes wired to those pins for a while

DRLs off, angel eyes tapped past firewall act as DRLs instead, high beams also turn on inner projectors.

Looking into deleting the fog lights and wiring/coding the fog light switch to turn on the inner projectors instead - they're aimed lower intentionally.

Awesome, thanks. I'm sold on them now.
