View Full Version : Slight stutter/hesitation when cold starting car after aFE intake install

I installed my aFE intake and I've notice that whenever I start my car cold after not having driven it for hours or overnight, that the engine kind of stutters and hesitates before igniting completely. It's as if it's not receiving enough air and is gasping for some until it finally starts.

But after driving it until it's warmed up, if I turn off the car and then start it again, it cranks flawlessly and 'instantly' without the delay from the cold start.

Any thoughts as to what's causing this?

Thanks!

How oily is your filter? Did you oil it from the factory?

Not sure how oily it is. It was oiled from the factory already so I just took it out of the bag and installed it; didn't touch it at all. Could this be an issue of it being too oily?

No....grasping at straws. I was thinking if you oiled it, right outta the bag, it may let less air through. You followed the instructions. Well done.

Does your car do that? I see you have the aFE intake as well. Before I installed the intake, my engine would crank and start as it should, but, as mentioned, after installing the aFe, it hesitates when cold starting.. I don't think it's a big issue but it's kind of annoying. I'm also baffled as to why it only happens when it's a cold start.

I have no problems currently.
