I went with a group of BMW's, Porsche's & exotics to the dragstrip over the summer. Had a blast and none of the cars broke down.

That was a great video. I gotta admit I didn't expect to get thru it because too many youtube videos just suck, but that guy was entertaining LOL

And, that's good to know. I will NEVER launch my car that hard. Ever.

ok. that clip was hilarious. that guy is way more composed than i would have been. I also wonder why an M3 wont take a 3500 rpm launch? i wouldnt think that was to high of an rpm to launch from. i was waiting for him to hit a 5k + launch. i mean a rear axel should stand up to 3500. i thought the new m3's with launch control kicked it to 4k on their "perfect launch".

Car & Driver did the 1/4 mile in 14.3 seconds in their ZHP review. With careful launches and the big 19's, the best I got was 15 IIRC. I can't find the timeslips so I can't verify.

Nothing against Dane but I personally don't care for that video at all. It paints the M3 in a negative light that just isn't true. Plenty of guys track their M3's - even drag race them. Many of those cars are also modified with superchargers, turbos and various bolt-on upgrades. Parts can fail on the track, auto-x, drag and of course the street.

+1.....I like the video for the way he presents it...not necessarily the content. The story is hilarious imho..

See in a way Eli, you are right, but imo a BMW is meant for the track/auto-x. Not drag.

Any car though can get damaged at the drags. Last time I went to the drags to watch, a guy with an Acura RSX went to launch, his WHOLE TRANNY FELL OUT OF THE CAR!!!!!!!!!! It was unbelieveable!!!!

And I havent really seen other BMWs damaging things at drags. My cousin cracked his tranny right in half on his slightly modded '93 S4 :) Still did a 12.4 1/4 pretty impressive for the car.
