Question with 1: will the "BRAKE" and the traction loss alarms go away once I replace the spare tire on the back? I'm worried that something else might have happened after the rear tire popped wednesday.

Question with 2: Once I get an alignment will it fix how much I have to angle the steering wheel to keep going straight? It's really annoying :facepalm
(This issue has been consistent since I got the car a few months back)

Thanks guys, you're the best! :thumbsup

I would think that those warning lights should go out. It's probably the traction control system detecting the different rotational data of the smaller spare.

For the alignment, it should fix your steering wheel crookedness.

Thanks guys, I definitely can't wait to get the new tires on and get the alignment! The steering wheel thing has been a pain for a few months now!

Is your spare a steel donut?

Page 19 of the manual says:

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
and brake warning lamp

The indicator lamps remain on:
DSC/DTC have been switched
off with the button or are faulty.
If there is a malfunction, have
the system checked as soon as possible.

If that's what happens with the doughnut on I would expect the manual to mention it and I checked that section and the section on driving with the spare and nothing.

Because of that my hunch is that one of the sensors was damaged when the tire failed.

Do you have a convertible? I thought all the E46s except convertibles had full size spares... Which would lead me to believe the manual wouldn't say this might happen with a spare if it is assuming your spare is full size...?

Alignment will fix your steering wheel centering.

You can on your own ensure that the wheel is installed centered, involves taking out the airbag and wheel bolt. There is a mark on the steering column that lines up with an un-splined area of the wheel's mating surface. This being wrong, however, is very unlikely - unless you removed the wheel or have reason to believe anyone else had before you got the car.

No positive ideas on the DSC lights - if your donut diameter is smaller than the other 3 tires, the DSC will probably not be super happy about that.

For data gathering's sake, both of my ZHP sedans have had donuts.
