View Full Version : Why is there crack on my face?

Get into the car this morning, look into the side mirror, see my own reflection with a crack in my face. Hey that crack isn't on my face, and why do I see my own reflection? Hey because the mirror is smashed and tilted... that explains it.

Good news, nothing on the car's body. Bad news, need the plastic side mirror cover since all clips are MIA and the glass itself. The assembly is fine and the motors are working.

I looked for an Imola Red E46 sedan mirror on ebay (yeah right, that was going to work) nothing. Looks like I will need to just get a primed oem cover and glass.

I also looked into getting the euro version of the glass with a wide-angle side but it's like double the price (100+ bucks).

Anyway... nothing really to say other than if somebody has IR driver side mirror cover let me know.

cheers!

IIRC Dane has some Imola mirror parts. Otherwise, it might be a perfect excuse to upgrade to some M3 mirrors.

EDIT: LOL, Stathi beat me to it.

nk, we are bad influences. :biggrin

I scoured the Internet for weeks before I finally found a deal. Got mine for $250. I got mine off an M3 wreck. The guy was only 40 minutes from my house. Score.

What benefits do the m3 mirrors have?

Marcus-SanDiego
12-20-2010, 02:12 PM
I got them mostly for looks. I don't like the dumbo-ear look of the stock mirrors. Also eliminates the noise that the stock mirrors made when the wind swooped through them.

Still, who am I kidding? I got them because they just look better.

Nothing besides they are more rounded in shape compared to our squared ones. Might help if your going 155+ mph tho ;)

I like my mirrors... The ///M3 mirrors look too much like every mirror on every other car out there to me. :eeps

I agree that on a coupe M3 looks right, on sedans I prefer the square basic look of stock units.

+2000. Someone did a decent job mounting mine but never bothered to hook it up properly. Poor motor moves but the mirror doesn't. I wouldn't know where to begin looking... :(
I know there is some ribbon cable modding to done from what I quickly read a while ago, and that alone just makes it not worth it to me. But, one of these days, when the weather gets nicer, I'll look into fixing it, because M3 mirrors are FTW in the looks department. Makes the car look years younger just by doing that.

I actually had someone asking me "is this a new car"?, and they actually meant off-the-lot new.

Unfortunately, my mirrors had the ribbon (the M3 mirrors had the pins), so there was some serious work that had to be done to make them fully functional. But I had a guy, Shane, owner of Euro Auto Spot, who did it for me. The guy is a magician with these cars. My mirrors work perfectly. Fully functional. If I had to pay for that work, sheesh, I have no idea how much someone would have charged me to do it. Indeed, I likely would have passed and just left them in a nonworking mode.

I think the M3 mirrors are great on the coupe, but I like the stock mirrors on the sedan. I don't think the sedan/coupe ones are exactly the same shape.

OP: Make sure whoever paints the cap does it properly; it seems they mess up the mirror color match a lot.

By the way OP, you need to stop doing drugs. They're bad for your health!

No one is going to be the resident grammar person. I hate that.

Fact is, I was an editor, reporter, and author in my previous life (for 15 years). If anyone is qualified to be the grammar police, I am likely that person.

However, I don't want any of that crap here. Until someone can write without a single error -- of any kind -- there won't be any one on this site who is qualified to be the grammar police officer.

All I ask is that people do their best to construct basic sentences, free of obvious spelling errors. If every word is misspelled, then that simply tells me that the person doesn't care about the membership. I don't see that happening.

Kudos, I don't want you to think this message was directed specifically toward you. It wasn't.

Every site has its resident grammar Nazi. I just want to make sure that everyone understands my position on it.

In the meantime, feel free to watch this video by Stephen Fry:

nk, you slay me. :party

I just want our site to be member friendly. I've found that people won't participate as much when they think that someone will pick apart their every word and thought. We don't want that here. We want a collegial atmosphere based on mutual respect. If someone wants to nitpick at someone (sad as that is), they are free to take it to private message.
