2004 BMW 330I ZHP MAINTENANCE LEDGER
Ok.....everything in my preventative/corrective maintenance section below....would/could pose a problem for you and this car in the future....my car is a 2/2004 330i, manual, with zhp package.

When looking to purchase
Look into/ask the question on whether or not the coolant system has been overhauled....the last time brakes were done.....what about CAB's and RTAB's.....check all window's (including the sunroof...ffs....for smooth operation)....check the sub frame for cracks......look for any type of oil residue on the block (take a flashlight with you)....Ask to see any/all maintenance records....ensure you operate the AC/Heat, and listen for abnormal sounds.....take the car up to a high rate of speed and note any irregular vibration.....check all lights.......drink a beer....ask him what kind of oil was used for the oil changes....drink another beer when you get the answer.....

Also....much info can be gained at http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index...ook_out_for.3F

By the way, for those with Android phones, I recommend aCar. I am still setting up all the various categories, and have yet to appropriately setup the alerts, but great as a general ledger to track your purchases and repairs. I've also talked to the developer about corrected the formulas for ownership costs since the app doesn't account for the date of purchase, mileage at time of purchase, and cost of vehicle at the time of purchase. And yes, my ownership cost skyrocketed because of my money shift :(

And I don't mean to derail, so let me know if this was not appropriate, and I'll make a thread somewhere else...

DW, why so many tire changes? My Bridgestones are only a bit over a year old and the rears are showing significant wear. What to you suggest? Hankook or the kuhmos?

I do 30k miles/yr...all non stock ride height. I go through one set/yr.

I tell the wife they only come with new rims.

Yup...the Kuhmos are a fiscally responsible tire. So are Hankook's. So are Yoko's.

Dane what are you using for the paintless dent remover (I'm looking at trying to remove 1-2 extremely minor dents if possible)? For paint chip or knicks I'm going to try Dr.Colorchip.

Never done before. Was losing 1qt per week, and I see fresh oil in the waffle area of the block.

Gasket removed was flat/brittle, with some suspect low spots/dents.

Hope I'm tight now.

What source did you follow for the repair procedure?

My own.

I removed...

1. Intake
2. Scoop and fan
3. Powersteering reservoir
4. Alternator
5. Oil supply line (banjo bolt) to vanos intake.
6. Remove 6 bolts for housing.
7. Tilt out housing, clean both seating surfaces. Stall new OFHG.
8. Install everything.

As always, looks good brother. The to-do list before SIGfest is a healthy one, but I'm sure you'll have it all completed. Of course, we will be talking about some things once I acquire a new car. I might be able to help you out a bit.

As for those ///M door sills, I'm intrigued... I too would like something other than the OEM chromies...

Yeah. Strange item = headlight washer nozzle.

I did the stud conversion to ease maintenance, get some badass open ended lugs (Titanium Muteki's on order), and some say studs are safer.

Nahh you will be fine ;)

My old E32 had close to 300k miles on the original CATs and it still passed California SMOG with good numbers.

BTW

Which 02 sensors effect MPG and performance? If I recall correctly, post cat effects SMOG, and the pre cat effect MPG and performance? I think it would be good preventative maintenance for me to change the 02 sensors since I am about click 170k miles.

Your reasoning is sound above, I believe.

Yeah....I think it's recommended all 4 get changed out at 100K miles. I had previously changed out my pre-cats, and now my post cats are new. I just don't like driving with a code all of the time....and I need an excuse for a sick exhaust too.:)

His codes are coming from the post cat O2 sensors. One of which I think is still throwing a code because it is cut and stuck inside the exhaust. I think the person to pull that O2 sensor out will be crowned the next king arthur.

Cheaper, in stock, nearly the same tread pattern, and tread life. Can't handle the flat spotting on these. Sitting overnight, mild temps, and it took 15 minutes of driving to achieve a round tire. I can't even imagine these in the winter.

Trading them out for the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+.
