Today my dad and I were treated to a FREE day at a local dyno, tunexperts.com. (http://tunexperts.com) They just brought in a successfully used dynamometer from Europe to start business and start their dyno taking territory here in Vancouver as tuners and V-Tech Dyno resellers. What makes their dyno special is pure accuracy. They can strap the car up quickly and have the means to measure not only wheel power but engine power by canceling out the drivetrain roll resistance upon coast/deceleration on this machine. Here are the pictures that I took today...

LOL....FUNNY guy..... I just about forgot...here's engine power which is valid:

330i 6MT Engine Power with ECIS Intake, Powerchip Tuning, Supersprint muffler, stock exhaust pipes with both resonators deleted:

My wheel power is undergoing some analyzing as it doesn't seem to be accurate as mine was the first car of the day if that's an excuse. The engine power seems to be close to OEM specs with a little bit of loss because maybe I have close to 150,000 miles on it? My dad's 540i showed a perfect 10% drivetrain loss with some loss in HP and torque due to an engine with 280,000km on it. But it still performed admirably well. Everyone loved the torque curve using 3rd gear but sadly because it has an automatic transmission and no sports package the governor is limited to 130mph. But we still got a decent reading nonetheless:

wow, not bad at all for 150,000 on the clock (<3% loss). I would think a good tune up would get you back that 5-6hp and a dynotune could even give you more.

and DAMN look at the torque figures on your dad's 540! 260.5-268.2 ft/lbs. that would be nice...

Impressive Torque Numbers on your dad's car. That's amazing.

Why don't you have video :(

Really great post. Very interesting. I didn't realize a 540 and 330 were so close in HP, but I guess it's the big difference in torque is what makes the 540 "feel" so much faster.

Bet you and your dad had an awesome day. Thanks so much for sharing!

Well done Trevor. Can you post engine mods and tunes above the dyno data?
