View Full Version : SRS Peake Reset tool for loaning.

If anyone is interested I just ponied up the cash for the SRS airbag reset tool and diagnostic cable ($199.90 from Bavauto). I am using this little puppy the first couple of weeks in October to fix my own sh!t, then will be available for others to borrow on a 1 week basis (honor system). This has been cleared with Marcus.

The only requirements I have are:

***You must have 100 posts, or make me feel comfortable I will be getting my tool back. Additionally, do not use tool, then refuse delivery, to negate the shipping fee. The last time this was done, it took me 5 months to get tool back!!!***

***Your car must be 2001-2007 (that's the reset tool I bought)***

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/nicee46/Maintenance%20and%20Misc/SR_300-16A.jpg

1) PM me. This is when I will give you my address.

2) Then Paypal me $12.00. I will give you my Paypal information when you make contact with me.

3) Respect the gear and take care of it while using it. I waited 2 years to purchase and finally made the leap.

4) Ship it back to me as soon as you're done with it. I figure if you can't figure it out in a week.....oh well.

F/S: I have a good Occupancy seat sensor if someone wants to give it a try!!!!!

I could've driven my car forever like this, but in the interest of helping others I purchased (would've rather bought pulleys, or some other crap for my car) but think of you all as my brothers.....yeah.....kumbaya and all that.

So, if anyone is interested PM me and I will see the availability.

I recieved the tool back yesterday......

Data as follows.....(This is a data sheet I throw in the kit everytime I loan it out)

http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af278/nicee46/Maintenance%20and%20Misc/scan0001-1.jpg

Models and codes are pretty widespread. Not a whole lot of trend analysis...but it does look like table 04 is used frequently, and code 60 for drivers seat belt switch (makes sense sort of). Additionally only looks like one zhp....

Have a great night, and know you won't have to pony up ~$200.00 to fix your car.

danewilson77

Yeah....you can look at the above list and see the date gap between May and September. It looks like something happened in hubbard IA, cuz it also say MN...so...idk. I did get it back though after the 5 month lag....

Mmmm....not sure. Why?

What is the model number on the Peake you are looking at?

johnrando
03-22-2011, 08:00 AM
I believe it's an R5. The only reason I ask is because he said he used it on his '02, so I was wondering if new s/w or codes or something came out since then. Not sure how old it is. John

UPDATE
Seller said "R5 fcx-3. Ive scanned an 04 m3 so I'd say you'll be fine". Thoughts?

It's prolly good to go. I wonder if it has update ability.....via USB?

What is he asking for it?

johnrando

$90 shipped, with the cable. Was going to offer $75 (as you suggested) and pay for shipping, so that's close enough for me.

danewilson77
03-22-2011, 08:58 AM
Sure....but let him know if it doesn't work on your car......you want a refund. You can get a brand new one for roughly $180.00

IDK about that model number.

04 = Firing circuit, belt tensioner, passenger's side

Stats:

Tool has traveled a cumulative round trip mileage of 44,348 miles since buying in October 2009. That's just about like going around the Earth, twice.

Most number of times shipped to same location = 2 (Peoria, IL and Los Angeles, CA)

Most mileage to one location round trip = 5650 miles (Plumas Lake, CA)

Fewest miles to one location round trip = 206 miles (Stafford, VA)

Headed out to Avetiso on Monday.

Received the tool today and ran the code. Only one came up which was 04/70 and according to the list it is the occupancy sensor mat in the passenger seat.

So I plugged in the airbag bypass module and the airbag light fully illuminated ( before it would just come on and off ). Decided to do the reset using the tool but no luck with it. The scanner shows that it is rest, the light goes off, then blinks twice and stays lit.

Tried it again just to be sure and it does the same thing.

Any suggestions?

danewilson77
11-04-2013, 05:46 PM
You cannot "clear" the code if the fault isn't fixed.

Did you replace mat?

Edit: I guess the bypass module was supposed to fix it. Maybe the bypass is faulty? :dunno

That is my guess. Going to try to put it back to stock and see if it goes away.

Edit*

Removed the bypass and plugged in the factory connector. Reset it with the tool and the code is still there. Guess the mat is done for finally.

I received the below from addam03e46 this morning.

What bullshit.

Dario.... You want to help him out?

Good Morning!! I just ran across your post on Google while researching my airbag issues. Long story short, I knowingly purchased a 2003 325i that was a rebuilt salvage title because it was low mileage, and the dealer did a great job rebuilding it.....so I thought. It occurred to me yesterday that I've never seen the airbag light come on when I first start the car. Upon further investigation I realized they covered up the light in the cluster!! I've only had the car for less than two weeks and It's really is in great shape so I'd like to fix the issue vice try to make them take it back (which likely wont happen). All the airbags appear to be there, so it could be something stupid that a hole in the wall "buy here die here" dealer isn't gonna know or care to fix. Point being, I'm located in Va Beach, and I was curious, even though I know you're post is really old, do you still loan out your SRS reset tool? You can message me back on here (I only registered to message you but I'll get on frequently to check) or just give me a call at 757-469-XXXX. My name is Addam. Thank you!

Dario, still got it?

Dane, does it only work on 2001-2007 cars? I want to diagnose SRS light on my 1997. If this only does the newer cars, I might buy the other Peake SRS tool, the R5-SRS. Is yours the R5-SRS-16?

That's what it says. I never used it on another car outside of those parameters.

"No flamesuit required"

I'm trying to figure out if the R5-SRS-16 is really just the R5-SRS with a 20-pin round to 16-bit OBD-II adapter, or if it has different software/chip inside. I suppose I could buy the one for the E36 then if I'm happy with it, buy the adapter and try it on the ZHP. The adapter says it lets it work with BMWs up through March 2003. Mine was built around July/August 2003.

I ordered it from ECS Tuning. Feel compelled to find out WHY the airbag light is on, to know if it is urgent to fix it. Normally I feel their shipping charges are kind of high but for this item shipping is free. If it works, I'll see about getting the adapter to try it with the ZHP too. It was for sale on eBay from several sellers as well for $1 more than the ECS Tuning price, and also with free shipping.

Shoot. Sorry I've been absent. I still have it.

Hey Dario. Can it plug into either a 20-pin round (underhood) or 16-pin trapezoidal (under dash) connectors? Meaning does it come with a removable adapter cable or is the cable permanently attached to it? If you'll be around Sunday, I might want to stop by on my way to Thunderhill and see if it can talk to my 1997 M3.

It's an under dash only.

Thanks, Dario. I bought the one for older BMWs from ECS Tuning, they shipped it Thursday via USPS Priority Mail and I got it today! Read my codes, table 02 code 10, "Seat belt buckle switch, driver." Reset it and it didn't come back on in short drive, but the switch is probably bad. Wonder how hard it is to replace. Maybe need to replace the seat belt buckle receptacle? The sensor must be inside that somewhere.
