Just got my stealth bulbs & clear front and side turn signals from khoa. They took about 5 minutes to install and look great. Next up, black/white roundels all the way around. Here's some pics, car still dirty:

lol. Dane - You changed out your wheel emblems, correct? Do they just pop out? I'll probably try and do the hood, trunk and wheels tomorrow. For anyone who's done the steering wheel emblem, do you have the lay on the horn to stick it on properly?

Mtnman
12-28-2010, 03:44 PM
i laid on my horn after i knew i had it right. just to make sure it stuck. FYI, my trunk studs on the cf emblem were too thin (by a mm or so) so the new emblem just fell out. I used plumbers tape to wrap the studs, and it stuck well, and has been good for 4 weeks. I was loking for masking tape, but didnt find any. Just an fyi, in case urs is the same.

You put in new grommets, correct?

Yes....my wheel roundels just pop off. I have figured out how to take mine off...without removing my tire.....but typically....you need to.

For hood and trunk roundel replacing.......use an old credit card.......slide said CC between the body and the roundel....then use a small standard screwdriver to pry it up and out. Yes.....the proper tool would be a trim removal tool....but who has that stuff? This is the proper method to remove both hood and trunk. The grommets may stay in the car...or come off with the roundel.

My hood one came with grommets, and was more expensive. Got the trunk one from khoalty and it did not come with grommets. Just reused old ones. Fyi tampa if u got them from khoalty... Come to think of it, I didn't use the new hood ones either.

Good info-- I ordered mine from Khoalty, so I'll order up some grommets.

Is that what the problem was? You were trying to install without grommets?

Mtnman
12-28-2010, 04:47 PM
No, the old grommets stayed in the car. Must have been a slight difference in diameter of posts... No big deal though, plumbers tape will last forever in there.....

Mine did not come with new grommets unfortunately. Hopefully it'll be a nice fit with the current ones. If not I'll order some grommets or try mtn's tape method. I have an old driver license I'll try to slip under them for removal. Is it possible to get the wheel emblems off from the front of the wheel? It looks like these things are plastic tabbed in there.

danewilson77

They basically snap in...and can require wheel removal to pop out....

See de lil tabbies....?

I just went out and put the hood and trunk ones on. They were both easy to remove. The hood fits well with old grommets, I put most of my weight on it when I pushed it in. It rocks back and forth very slightly if you tap on the top or bottom of the emblem, but it feels solid otherwise. The trunk emblem is exactly like mtn's experience, it fits but it will definitely fall off if left that way. The posts on the new emblem are visibly thinner than the stock ones. I cut a piece of electrical tape in half and wrapped each post a few twists. It was a lot harder to get it back into the grommets after this. I pushed it in there and lightly smashed it with my hand to hammer it in. It has the same rocking back and forth effect as the hood, but a little more so. It feels pretty solid in there, and as long as it doesn't fall out I'm happy with it. Should I go get that plumber's tape or will electrical tape hold up in place?
The wheel emblems look impossible to remove from the front. There is no clearance to get anything in between the emblem and the wheel itself. I couldn't even get the driver license in there. I'd prefer not to remove the wheels if I can help it. Is there a special tool that can do it?

1. you should be gtg.....but get new grommets....or ask khoa what the solution here is......since the pegs on the roudels he sells, do not fit the oem grommets (though it did on mine)

2. No............pull tire off.

I used plumbers pipe thread "tape" which is super thin. Hell, when I go to the houde thursday, I can look for the grommets I have and mail them to u if u want. Just let me know. I think I know where they are...

Damn, work! I can just use the stock jack w/out a jack stand to slip the wheel off quick, correct? I don't have a good jack or jack stands or ramps - never needed them. The toolkit in the trunk should have everything needed to remove a wheel from what I remember. Where can you get just the grommets for the hood and trunk?

Cool, thanks. I would like it to fit a little tighter on there, but if it's not going to fall off, I'm ok with it the way it is. I worry about the trunk because it's angeled down, just waiting to fall out.

I just had a thought on how to get rid of that slight rocking. Some double-sided tape on the top and bottom of the inside of the emblem would probably hold it in place, hopefully make it more flush. Maybe even all the way around the inside edge. Other than falling off, I'm concerned about moisture getting behind them. I'd feel better if it was on there with a tight seal all the way around. Has anyone tried double-sided tape?

I wouldnt want the roundel too far off the bodywork, or a whole bunch of crap might get below it, and do who knows what. Just my 2cents.

Where did these roundels come from?

Tampa330i

From Khoalty. They're b&w, non carbon fiber. I got hood, trunk, steering wheel, and wheels.

It sucks that they don't fit more snugly. I've never received roundels from Khoa. I'm going to ask him about them when I see him next time.

Tampa330i

The hood is pretty snug as far as the posts in the grommets go, it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. The trunk wasn't snug at all, it fits and stays in place, but I could pull it right off. After the tape the trunk feels like it's not going anywhere, but neither are 100% flush with the body, i.e. you can rock them back and forth a little. Maybe I haven't got them pushed all the way in, but I put a lot of force into them trying to get rid of that and they don't seem to get any closer to the body. This may also have something to do with cold, it hasn't been above 60 in a while and it was about 45 when I put them in. Since the grommets are plastic, maybe they're constricted and not letting the post fit all the way down in.

It's sounding like a fitment issue. I like the fact that Khoalty offers them at a great price, but it's only a great price if they fit.

I don't want to spend $70 on new roundels all the way around and then have to tape the posts to install.

I'll reach out for Khoa if they don't fit properly-- I'm sure he'll make it right. Worst case scenario, I'll return the hood and trunk and buy elsewhere.

I decided to take the trunk emblem off after it appeared to have shimmied out of place a little after some driving. I put the stock one back on and now that one feels loose. I think the solution here is new grommets. I changed the hood back to stock also, and that one fits better than the trunk, with no rocking at all. The trunk doesn't rock now, but it offers no resistance when removing it. I can now take the trunk one off without and tools or effort, it just comes right off. I have a feeling it's going to fall off while I'm driving.

Ok-- I'm gonna scoop up some grommets then and have them ready to go when the roundels get here. Just as a sidebar, I replaced roundels on my 325 and didn't need to do anything with the grommets. Tight coming off, and tight going back on...
