He Guys my po seemed to like his music loud as the audio system in my car was on crutches when I got it... My hk subs have always popped and yesterday gave up the ghost my question is should I replace the hk's or do a separate sub and amp? I cannot figure out why speakers would work as replacement however I have always been a pretty good box builder so setting up a 10 or 2 in the trunk wouldn't be much of a struggle (my wife however will probably be pissed) what opinions/advice do ya got?

I guess it would come down to ultimate sound quality vs. trunk space. I've considerd the bavsound setup with the speakers and different amp but I think it's kind of pricey.

Do you have a ski-pass? If not, you can knock out the metal and build a box to fire an 8 or 10 into the cabin. Would take up minimal space in trunk.

No ski pass I designed a small ported box for 10's in winISD and I have an amp I can use... Wish there were replacement/ upgrde subs for the stock hk's... I may build a mock up box and see what it looks like

You think any of these would work for you?

They might just worried about ohm load and power handling vs stock I don't know what ohm or rms rating the stock woofers are

When I bought my ZHP used I thought my rear subs were blown turns out it was the rear shelf rattling bad. Search "rear deck fix" or "rear shelf rattle". I found some used HK subs on E46Fanatics for $40 before I realized it wasn't the subs. Check on eBay or call BSW.

I believe they are 2 OHM's.

Wow didn't know they were that low... The cdt's may be a viable option... Any one have any idea what stock sub amps output is?

unsure. let us know how the replacement goes (if they are in fact blown) and what you get to fit in there.

I heard this is a pretty good upgrade.

Got on the pc and designed this box it fits between the wheel wells and is only 10 inches deep tuned it to 33Hz total cost of materials was 30 bucks after looking at drop in replacents I realized I would new another amp to run them and since I would have to install an amp I figured I would try to upgrade the low end extension of the system by doing a new sub install

Just got done digging in the truck and discovered that the po had created a pass through on the metal behind the rear seat... Not a shoddy job but it's not the best job either =\

In a sedan you can just knock out the metal plate that covers the pass through with one quick blow. That is probably what he did.

Ya he did but then used some metal braces and self tapping screws to put it back in

So I guess the pass through was an option separately from the fold-down seats or do you have fold down seats as well?
I'm curious to see the box installed!

are you going to have the box backed up against the seat? You might as well get rid of plate. You will get more bass in the cabin that way.
