Well I know what I would be doing with the money I don't have!!! I just wish I had a subframe that wasn't beat to hell right now.

Five hour drive! Wow! I'd need a co-pilot and I have class til 5pm on Fridays...I hate life sometimes...

Do you need a helmet for the track?

Not that I am aware of but might want to check here
http://www.mirdrag.com/v2/qa/

We've done other track rentals where we were not required to wear them too so I suspect this is the same since its a drag strip not a 150mph+ track. Most people won't get past 120mph in 1/4 mile

Do you need a helmet for the track?

Usually they do if you are planning to be in a car on the track. Also, I believe that we are now into the Snell 2005 and later helmets (this being the every ten year advancement in helmet regulations). I have not been to this particular track, but I would assume that they follow all other tracks with the helmet requirement.

EDIT: I stand corrected if the above information holds true!

Cool! I'm going to be in the area that weekend so I'll come to represent the SoCal ZHPMafia but the car won't fit in the overhead bin...
I grew up in SoMD and used to take my (and my parents') cars to MIR for the midnight madness races they used to have....
I'll have to pick a cool rental car for this!

I did the drag day last year at Timmayfest. Even though my car wasn't the fastest it was just fun to run the car up to 120mph with not so much of a look over my shoulder for a cop or anything. Times don't matter, you'll get beat even in an M3 (there will be $300,000 Lambo's running 10's there I promise).

What time does this start on Friday? Since it is maybe a 20 minute drive from my house I will definitely be there.

Wish I had the funds to get my car tuned. The throttle remapping is very appealing to me. Double clutching is way harder than it needs to be without a sprint booster.

Had a good time, tune turned out great! You can feel the 330 pulling harder and is a lot more responsive.

The dyno was messing up. I was scheduled at 3 but due to complications we got to my car around 7. Jerry decided with the dyno acting up and how long it was taking not to dyno my car. Unfortunately we do not have a before dyno but I am going to get an after.

So, after Seth (UdubBadger) introduced EuroCharged and its available tune for ZHP automatic (thanks God!), I got really interested with it since I was looking before at JC's Shark Injector (yes, its not available for automatics :facepalm). And who am I to refuse a good ZHPMafia discount? :applause2

Ive been exchanging PM's with him and thankfully i dont have to wait for days for his reply, so all my questions were answered promptly. I was 75% committed when my work tried to get in the way, so I pm'd again Seth telling him I cant go. 2 days after that, I inquired again and Seth promptly replied and told me there is still a spot for me (Dane cant go), so I told my boss (wife) I need to drive down to Maryland to get my car "fixed" :roundel

Me and my friend (I let him drive halfway so he can compare before and after too) got to the shop at around 10:30 am, and Jerry was working on an E55 AMG
3341

I introduced myself to him and we chatted for a while, then he started working on my car (multi-tasking guy)
3334
3339

It took less than 1 hour for the initial read on my car then im on the dynojet...
3337
3336

All ready, picture is showing my BMW Performance Intake which was taken into consideration when Jerry did my tune...
3335

and then after 5 runs, below is the result...
3338

To sum up my experience with EuroCharged
- customer service is superb, email replies are very prompt
- Jerry knows whats he's doing,:respect heck i dont think those soupped up MBs would show up there if they dont trust him
- i was very impressed with the power gain and most especially the torque at the low end
- the dip is still there but less noticeable, should Jerry had more time that day for my ZHP, i think the result could have been better, there was already 5 MBs waiting in line after me
- my butt dyno tells me i gained more than 11 HP (from 172 (really???) to 183)
- i think the dyno result is not accurate, but i dont really care about the numbers, i trust my butt dyno better, so im still happy...
- my friend (mazda guy, not really into BMWs) is also impressed by the power gain
- overall, my car is more fun to drive and feels like a new car again:headbang

all in all, i give EuroCharged :chuck:waldo

Future plan is to free up some more HP by replacing the fans and adding underdrive pulleys... I want to reach 200 HP...

S85FTW
02-21-2012, 10:37 PM
Am I missing something or is 183 wheel only 214 crank? If so something is robbing your car of power. Check your disa valve as it could cause the dip to still be there and a loss of power. B5 s4's stock pull about 210 wheel but that Quattro is a huge drivetrain loss.

LivesNearCostco
02-21-2012, 11:09 PM
I had the same reaction when my ZHP was dyno'd. It came in at 189 WHP and later a different shop dyno'd it at 190 WHP. If we assume 15% drivetrain loss, that implies my car was only making 223 HP at the crank instead of the spec'd 235. I felt less alarmed after I saw a few other E46 330 dyno sheets posted showing WHP numbers ranging from 187 to 195, though a few claimed dyno test as high as 205 RWHP.

Partly in my chase for more power I replaced the pre-cat O2 sensors, did VANOS seals, put electrical tape around the DISA, cleaned ICV, got the DME updated, installed underdrive pulleys, and bought a Shark Injector. More recently I replaced spark plugs (with only 50,000 miles on them) and the original coil packs (though that was mostly chasing a misfire). Unfortunately the one thing I haven't done is get the car dyno'd again! Once I do, hoping it shows at least 195 RWHP.

How is your idle? Does it stumble at all or sputter when sitting in traffic or at a light. My brother notices a dip in power in the 3-4k rpm range and I threw no CEL but sure enough my DISA was bad as the symptoms got worse with time. The DISA is a flap in your intake manifold that opens up at about the 3-4k range to allow more air into the engine.

The numbers could have been off with the dyno. Then again your numbers may be right too. It is not uncommon to see the numbers hover right where yours were. I have seen e46 M3's put down 275-285hp is about normal for these cars. I have seen a friends M3 throw down a dyno of 290hp which was pretty high for these cars. It needed a full catback exhaust to make over 300hp and intake to push 305hp.

SH330CI has the right idea. My number 3 coil pack on my car is running at a higher range than factor reccomends numbers right now(PROBABLY ON ITS WAY OUT). I know sorry guys been a little lazy to fix, will get to it this weekend. I know this because my car gets scanned just about every other month. While there is no CEL being thrown, when I scan my vehicle I look for everything and see what may be off.

I agree with most when I saw the power at 172hp thinking something is off. Could have been the dyno as well.

M3TA5IN
02-22-2012, 08:35 AM
Jay was there earlier in the day, the dyno started to really start throwing off around 5ish I believe. Could of just been from running it non stop all day :dunno

LivesNearCostco
02-22-2012, 08:36 AM
Both of my dyno runs were on Dynojet dynos with SAE correction. The 2nd time, when I showed one more peak RWHP (190 instead of 189), the weather was much hotter but the shop had a fan blowing at my radiator and engine bay to cool things down and an employee misting water onto my A/C condenser and radiator. I've changed too many things to get another pure baseline dyno, but am hoping if I added an intake (on top of Shark and pulleys) I could hit 200 RWHP on the first Dynojet. Just been too lazy/cheap to go dyno again. Recent visits to the track have shown me that my biggest areas for improvement are driver/corners, not straight line acceleration. Still, more power would be nice, plus the bragging rights.

Strange. Dynojets are supposed to be one of the best dyno's

^^ Thank you. Take a look at first mileage of the car 19k (might have something to do with it).

Second one showed Conforti intake and pulleys. the numbers are not out of the question with mods and mileage. Too many variables to go off of when it comes to dyno's. To squeeze extra hp is always a challenge.

Hornung418
02-22-2012, 09:11 AM
Also, it's important to note that the dyno is a delta tool for tuning, not for measuring single instances. If you feel you are lacking power, check your vacuum and intake systems for leaks, change your plugs, and clean your filter and MAF.

jayjay_dee
02-22-2012, 09:31 AM
getting lots of good suggestions here, thanks guys...

to add more info about my 2005 ZHP steptronic:
- current mileage is around 100,500 miles
- BMW Perf Intake around 4 months old
- Iridium spark plugs around 3 months old, not even 1K miles on them
- Oil was changed same time with spark plugs
- I occasionaly hear whistling/high pitched sound when stepping on the gas (so will check for intake leaks)

Haha, it's a good thing winter is almost over and I'll be going back to my brand new V12s. These rears are going to done at this rate. I can spin them in 2nd and 3rd no problem now with the DCT not completely off, I could never do this before. Or maybe I'm just becoming better with the car lol :p

This morning I was at a light that turns to a long 4 lane straight before my work and a e46 330i pulled up beside me and he wanted to go so I was like alright. I got pretty side ways in the turn which was awesome. Don't know if it's from all the extra powah you gave me or if I've just toasted the rears from all the extra powah! Either way, I blame the tune :)

I had a dyno session to get baseline numbers at 110k miles on the odometer and my car on a load based Mustang Dyno did 3407

A dynojet without the eddy current load on it will read higher then when it has a load. I assume that they have a 424X dynojet and thus will definitely read lower.

Looking at their images and having worked on a few 424x dynos I think they have eddy current at least on the rear drums.

Unless someone dynos an engine out of the car with full exhaust as it was on the car it is hard to tell what actual drivetrain loss is. I have seen engines on the engine dyno and then go into a car and even the "common" 15% loss goes out the window.
