View Full Version : The 635 CSi Big Adventure - Here I go getting myself in trouble again...

So, today I saw this beauty looking at me very sad, with 2007 stickers and begging for a new home... I offered $500, the owner asked $1K, I grew a $750 offer...

The car needs a clutch cylinder and a fluid drain/service to run, along with 4 tires.

If the guy takes the $750, I'll buy it.

I can have the car up and running for 1bout $1500, then it'll become a rolling project. The only visible body damage is a rot on the rear window...

Here are some pics:

It doesn't look that bad in the photos. Maybe it just needs a little family love. Very tempting I'm sure.

Ed, that's probably a hard spot to repair rust damage because it is a spot that requires a seal and must be "perfect" to get a good seal on the glass.... may I suggest looking into an E30 sir.:caseyshrug

E30s are fun and affordable, but that black 635 spoke to me.. I love the way it looks absolutely MAD!!!

You're gonna have to get Painted Euro Bumpers on that thing ASAP.

Also, what year is this...if it was built by Karmann...It could have the rust bug. No Bueno. If it was sold here in the states it would be an 84+ so you'll be fine other than that lone spot.

Sharks are very expensive. And rust repair right there is very expensive too. You are looking at least at $800 to fix that spot of rust, it most likely has eaten through the underside and along the entire windshield. Then painting, blending, miscellaneous parts, you'll be $5k into it by the time you are done ... or more. Sorry, I dont mean to thread crap, just going through an expensive resto project right now myself on a E21. Good luck with it!

This +20,000.
The chrome euro's would better on black, though. IMO

Love the idea of euro bumpers, and $5K is my spreader budget for 18 months to repair the whole car. So not bad!

Love this project idea, E21's are a ton of fun. That rust spot doesn't look too bad, just cut out and weld in a new piece of metal. Also, you need a new (old) shifter... this is the one I had in my '81 Euro spec CSi (now in the 2002)

Maybe, but original Euro spec CSi... Definitely better looking than the original 2002 shifter

Unless at full price it is still a steal I would not rush in to a project car. I would probably be more inclined to make another offer say 700 just under your previous one this is the deal where he who caves first loses

I'd show up with 850 cash.. do a real inspection spot a few more things and then settle on 800 as said above.. just like the guy on wheeler dealers from the UK ;)

I was about to comment on the 5-spd swap but after searching other forums, it looks like they used the i/A for both manuals and autos. Some say the A means American market and others say it means Automatic. Do you know anything about that? I was just curious.

I was always told the A stands for Automatic
