View Full Version : What's in your BMW 330 ZHP?

Didn't mean for the title to come off as Capital One Commercial. :rofl But I just wanted to see the feedback of what modification ZHP Owners currently have and what modifications they are looking to upgrade to in the near future and to why?

I currently have a 2004 330 ZHP with 115K on the Clock.

Performance Modifications:

Engine Mods:

Gruppe M Cold Air Intake (Sounds Epic) Horsepower Gains are outweighed by sound :rofl
Active Autowerke Performance Header
Active Autowerke Gen 3 Exhaust
Active Auowerke Custom Dyno Tune for 93 Octane, Gruppe M Intake, Performance Headers and Performance Muffler with (Emissions Check Engine Light Delete)

Only mods so far on mine is a set of 17 x 8.5f / 9r SSR Comps for the nicer months and rials for winter. I'd like to eventually upgrade to the AA Gen 3. I had that on my E36 M3 and loved the sound, especially after it opened up a bit (few months). I feel the zhp would be perfect with ~70ish more hp so I hope to make that happen.

Visually: Clear front bumper reflectors (already in), c/f black/white roundels. cf splitters, cf grill on the way

Performance (But really just under-hood visual under the auspices of performance): Plan on doing the BMW performance intake and BMW cf strut bar later this year.

There's one other performance mod that might be there, but I'm going to ask about that one in a separate post in a moment.

Awesome I love the SSR Comps they are so much Lighter than Stock Wheels. Yeah the Active Gen 3 Exhaust just complements the overall ZHP from that deep exotic sound, performance gains, and the Amazing Active Autowerke Exhaust Tips. I completely agree with you on the HP Spec. Going from Boost to Stock that Extra HP Gain is needed on the ZHPs.

Awesome I like the C/F Theme that you going towards. I did the C/F Diffuser and it really cleans up the looks of the car. Good Stuff Captain

Thanks, Viral. The car already had the c/f diffuser when I bought it-- it's so subtle against the Sparkling Graphite that I decided to roll the dice with the splitters and grill.

Kind of nervous about it-- don't want to go uglying up a beautiful ride. So worst case scenario someone gets some nice splitters and grills at a discount....

Sparkling Graphite is one of my favorite colors and a rare one for the ZHP. Yeah C/F is a hit or miss on some cars. But I think it would complement the overall C/F Parts you have on your ZHP.

I would like to find an exhaust that is STX-compatible, is lighter, but isn't loud. I want to be able to hear the engine on the highway, but I do not want it to be obnoxious, which I'm finding all the exhausts I've looked at to be.

Do you have any sound clips of that Gen 3 exhaust?

all the mod money gets spent on the e36 track car.....:)

well, ok - i added the Dice Mediabridge to the radio in the ZHP, but that hardly counts.

Sounds like me, Shadow. All of my modding was done with the 335. If I feel the need for speed, I'll get in that one.

The ZHP will remain -- for the most part -- stock. A few visual cues here and there. Nothing major.

i've finally convinced myself (maybe maturity?!) that for my daily driver i'm happier if its stock......
i've modded the e36 track car pretty hard, and enjoy driving it; but, i'll fully admit that i enjoy the ZHP on the street much more......

The ZHP is one of the nicest looking cars from factory but we all mod to individualize our vehicle to our lifestyle and our perception of the right look some are performance drive and some are looks driven and some like myself like both.

Yeah. I did it when I did my tranny and diff fluid at 48k. It made quite a noticeable difference. The hole BMW uses for the fluid to come thru is about the size of a tip of a pencil. Crazy! I couldnt believe it when I saw it...

Stock basically besides:

CDV w/clutch stop

It did improve clutch feel, and with the clutch stop it made the engagement travel seem much shorter. Much like the Miata, which I prefer.

Really?? When I got mine replaced, the holes looked exactly the same size-wise. Of course I do notice a bit of a difference, not huge, but definitely an improvement, after replacing it anyway. I can't explain that one, to be honest. Perhaps the CDV hole sizes changed later in the model years? Dunno, but you do have the same Model Year as I do so I doubt it.

Or...perhaps......PO had purchased the CDV body drilled out/internals removed by Zeckhausen Racing?

But then why would I feel a difference? There was a small difference; perfect rev-matching before was impossible, but now perfect rev-matching is only almost impossible (because of the throttle lag). The valve I put in from BavAuto now at least made it more of a reality than before...

It's on my short list, but I haven't done it yet. Because I'm still under CPO, I'll be going with the Zeckhausen Racing modified CDV mod here (http://www.zeckhausen.com/CDV.htm) so it looks like it's still there...

LOL funny I left it stock for 3 years....I resisted the urge. Then I decided that I wanted to make the car feel different and started slowly adding parts. I'm proud to say that I have a much better understanding on how different modifications effect a car which is a great educational process. BMW did make an awesome package...it's near ideal for what people want out of a fun street car. Even though I put expensive suspension on and thicker sways, I feel that the stock setup is great! I expected to notice a HUGE change when i got my car back from those mods but I didn't feel a huge change...LOL. BMW did their homework. They put it together so we wouldn't have to spend $$$$$ to do it. Although I do have better handling and the car is even quicker...it's not the norm that I put both to full use on public streets. If you put stock ZHP performance limits to practice on public streets, others may freak out just a little. LOL. I have had to make some pretty evasive/panic manoeuvres at highspeed which used every bit of traction/suspension up to recover so if my mods went into play there, then it was all worth it. Trying to out corner a Greyhound mud flap that has come lose from behind the bus at 70mph, spinning straight for the windshield is no joke. Luckily it passed inches from the passenger window but I think it left my passenger and back seat passenger with a wet spot...haha.

Hi everyone, I am so pumped I just ordered some parts for my 330cic zhp 2005 =) !

here's the list :
AFE Stage 2 Intake PRO 5 R
Some aluminum pedals (eye candy :) )
Interior Xenon Bulb Kits (to give it a more modern look !)
Carbon Fiber HandBrake handle (more eye candy !)

and last but not least, a carbonfiber strutbar to tighten the car a bit.

I should receive those during the week and will post some review as soon as I can for the individual products :) !!

What kind of handling improvement can I except from the strutbar ? Someone told me it would be a good ideal because I have a convertible and it's usually a bit less tight than a coupe.
What's your take on this ?
