View Full Version : Status light on Auto Headlight module flashing?

Okay to summarize what happened:

Got some car work done
When taking off driver side headlamp some windshield fluid spilled on the headlight
Liquid got inside light, but we air dried the light and the fog issue is gone
Drove it daytime only for the last week
Drove it home tonight at night so the auto headlight was on. Green status light on the auto headlight module is now flashing green.

Upon a search of this site I couldn't find a solution. Expanding to google someone said something's wrong with the lights.

I noticed the lights are NOT turning when I turn the wheel anymore (used to before) and I shut the car off and started it up a couple times and the lights are not auto-leveling anymore either.

Is there anything I can do to avoid taking this into the dealer? Is there a way to hard reset it? Will unplugging the battery for 15 min or something reset it?

Signed,

Concerned in Columbus (lol..)

It sounds like you got the motors wet for the auto level feature?

You will hurt nothing by doing a hard reboot.

Ok I'll give it a try today and let you know!

15 minutes sound long enough?

Agree with trying the hard reset.

But one thing I have also noticed about the auto level is that if you turn the car on and they level then cycle the car with out moving the lights won't re-level since the car hasn't moved.

You have reset your adaptation settings as well.

That's what I thought... then was surprised when the lights didn't do anything when I covered it up with my finger. :shifty

Why is there a status light? I've never ever seen it come on, but perhaps that's because I never use it on auto...? :dunno

status light is for auto headlight, orange if there's a light out / not working. Blinks green if something's not working right.

Solid green if everything's:

I just tried the auto feature today. Lights came on (because it's raining and I had auto wipers on) but there was no solid green light on. I've never seen a light on there.

I've never seen a solid light whatsoever.
The light sensor for the auto headlights is in the rear view mirror's prism.

Perhaps you haven't seen it because you don't have auto lights...

Isn't a sensor. It's the status light; the sensor is on the windshield for cars equipped with it.

I know, I just mentioned that a few posts ago.
The pinhole status light is on my LCM, but has never illuminated.

That's all I know.

hmm, it's green when my lights are on, was flashing when my auto leveling wasn't working, and was orange when the left beam wasn't working

Only on facelift coupes with the adaptive xenons

+1

Mine performs exactly as carsontl describes and I've had that flashing light when leveling/adaptive wasn't working. Took headlights out and cleaned connectors and put it back together and it's been fine since. You unfortunately might've done more damage sloshing fluid around the electronics?

i just think it tripped the alert, after the 30 min hard reset on the battery it's been fine since!

Makes sense, that might've been all mine needed too as I had battery disconnected while cleaning. Glad you're back up and running

Update, first time using the headlights since it reset with battery disconnect: light's blinking again.

I texted the owner of the body shop last night but didn't get a response... I don't know how to approach this with him but I feel like it happened while he was taking apart my headlight and he needs to fix it. He doesn't think he did it, but it worked before it was in his shop and doesn't work now...

Do BMW dealerships do complimentary checkups? Infiniti had that when i had the G35.

If by "complimentary" you mean charging you $100... sure, they do that. :biggrin

I wish this was sent with a Galaxy S3

It could be as simple as the adaptive module being unplugged. Best would be to hook it to INPA or DIS and read the codes.
