ZHP Mafia,

Firestone shops are having their annual big "Friends and Family" sale. Basically purchase tires at their cost plus $1.00.

Starts on the Jan. 14th through the end of the month.

Linh, it shows as 15% off. Not 35%. Were you trying to point to something different?

Actually thats it. Purchase Bridgestone/Firestone tires at store cost plus a buck. Basically 30-40% off a tire. Of course any other service will be 15% off.

Planning to get the RE050 PP.

Thanks for the edit, hopefully someone could use some new tires =)

OK. Cool. I see. So the margin is about 35%.

Thanks, Linh.

Ok. Did a little research on the possible type of Bridgestone tires available for the ZHP stock 18's

RE11 $750/set AA180
RE040 PP $705/set AA280
RE760 $490/set AA340

Prices are from their website: with 35% off, and 7% tax included.

If anyone have any of these tires, please chime in with your experiences with them.

RE040s on mine right now. I read the reviews on TireRack when I bought the car and it seems that they get some poor reviews compared to other tires in the UHPS category. I, however, have nothing bad to say about them yet. Dry and wet grip is good, steering response feels good. Pushed them fairly hard and didn't break them loose as of yet, but I've also backed off them a bit since it's been so cold.

I'll wait for the warmer weather to really get on them and see how they stack up.

Seems that the RE760 gets much better feedback on TireRack, fwiw.

Yep, I'm now considering the RE760 nows instead of the Pole Positions, from the positive reviews on TireRack.

Better wear ratings and good amount of grip for everyday driving and the price is very attractive.

Interested in your review if you get them.

I'm thinking I'll probably need tires by the end of this year if the 040s wear the way I think they will.

I really don't need tires right now either, but with the money I will be saving, I guess I could save them till summer time. =)

My car had the RE040 Potenzas on it when I bought it, I'd guess they were about 25% worn. I put 10,000 on them before replacing them with Hankook V12's. They were VERY noisy at between about 10 to 35 mph and tramlined quite a bit on uneven surfaces. Honestly I couldn't wait to get them off, they had maybe 5,000 miles left in them when I switched. The Hankooks are known for having a softer sidewall and I can notice it on turn-in where the Potenzas were almost too stiff, it felt a little twitchy at times. Could have been just me getting used to a tight handling car again though. Other than that I love the Hankooks....so much quieter and even a softer ride to them. And no more tramlining. Once I got used to them, I don't notice the soft sidewall anymore. Grip is good, they just don't react quite as fast as the Potenzas did.

Linh... Did you get the RE760s?? I am stuck between them and the Hankooks... And totally on the fence...

Not sure about your Firestone, but the one local to me gave me a price the same as Discount Tire would be. So no go on the RE760's. Most of the reviews on the RE760's are good, besides some people complaining about tire tramlining.

My only experience on the Hankooks are the V12's which is a very good budget tire. Bought them for my brother's G35 coupe, and they are comfortable and much more quiet than the Bridgestone Re050a's they replace.

I pulled the trigger on the 760s. Ended up being about one tire free, as it turned out. Out the door, including tax at $696 for all four, rather than 825 or so at Discount Tire (which, btw, was the price for the Hankooks and the Bridgestones...)

So fat so good. Of course, seem a bit mushy on turn in compared to my make-shift racing slicks that I replaced! I will let everyone know my thoughts, if I have any...

Thanks for the opinions!

Good luck with them.

Looking forward to your feedback on them.

To chime in, I replaced the stock RE040's with the RE760 after reading the positive reviews on Tirerack (the pricing was right as well). I have been very happy with them and just replaced the rears after 20k+ miles. I use them year-round (very limited driving in colder temps) so I wanted something a little less soft and better able to handle the varying pavement where I live.

Pros:
Long tread-life
Very quiet and stable at highway speed
Good wet traction
No tramlining

Cons:
Noticeable loss of dry grip at the limit
Sidewall profile is tall and rounded off (not as sharp as the RE040)

I would not do autox on these tires, but if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of grip and appearance, the RE760 is def a good deal.
