I have a 6 speed and could swear the top of the shift knob lit up when bought my car. Then one day I it was gone. I had it checked when I had it serviced a few years ago and they said, na-da. That they had pulled the knob and found no light bulb or wires. I know there are lights that shine down on it by the map lights.

Does anybodies 6 speed shift knob light up?

Stock zhp knob doesn't, but I've seen some nice aftermarket ones that do.

No it doesn't. The M3 one does, and you can buy a modified ZHP shift knob that lights up. I'm guessing you saw the reflection of your "ambience" lights on your shift knob when it was glossy and new, and you don't anymore.

The M3 knob is taller though, and doesn't feel as good as the ZHP knob, IMO.

Very true. My dad had installed the illuminated ZHP shift knob on his E46 M3 after he did the UUC Evo3. The difference was sooo huge!!
